Does anyone here use chemical (dessicant) or electronic dehumidifiers in their gunsafes??? This sounds like a good idea and I'd like to maybe start using them in my safe, but I did not even know about them until today. Could anyone recommend a good/economical one, because the two I saw today are $35, one was electronic and the other chemical.

Electric golden rod/dri-rod type dehumidifiers (about $30.00) work well, just plug it in an forget about it.

I keep a few tubs of Walmart bought dry absorbent in my gun closet, have done so for a few years. I'm not sure of the impact one way or another. I keep a light coat of oil on all guns, no rust shows itself.

In Fairbanks? Don't you use a humidifier for at least half of the year in your igloo? (You know, the really cold part of the year.) I know that I do!

Seriously, Golden rod type; plug and play simplicity. The problem with the "little crystals" is that when it is moist they tend to get saturated when you aren't paying attention; because you are use to the other six months of the year...
