I am in the midst of buying a Winchester Defender, I have heard that they went out of buisness though:confused: Should there still be a abundance of 1300 parts around or is this a gun I should reconsider? also if I get it how does everyone feel about ghost sights & what are the advanteges? (I have noticed they usually come along with a heat shield) but please elaborate if possible I am pretty new to this. :o
Well Thank's in advance, this is my first post and I have allready enjoyed this site quite a bit!

Defender 1300

Tex,

I got a Winchester 1300 series Defender speed pump 20g and it rocks. 18" barrel, 2 pistol grips, less than 5lbs, reliable & fast!

As far as I know they are still in business... And parts for a poplular American made firearm of this sort should be abundant.

Its also very affordable less than $400. Its competitive w/Mossberg, remington, Benneli etc... A great HD weapon.

Hope this helped.

I've got an FN Police on layaway. It's the exact same thing, just has screw-in instead of fixed chokes. CDNN has them for $279.98 shipped. I'm getting mine from a local dealer cause I'd rather support them. Winchester/Browning/FN isn't going out of business, they're just going to stop making a few of their guns, including the 1300. Plenty of accessories are readily available from stocks to sidesaddles to pistol grips, and they probably will be for a long time as the 1300 has been around for a while.

Cool Thanx

Yea I'm getting the defender from academy for $267. Is the heatshield with ghost rings a good add on? or is it more cosmetic than practical?
Thanks again guys!

defender in 20 gauge? How? Where?!?

Sun,

I was told by a rep at Winchester that they never made any of the 1300 defenders in 20 gauge, and with the factory closing, won't be. Please tell me where you got one.

I know, but they guy at Winchester said they never actually MANUFACTURED any of the 20 gauge. Maybe he was funning me, but I haven't been able to find one available anywhere.

20g

Mummer,

Bro, I PM'd YOU the intel on the speed pump in 20ga. Check your private messages. I bought mine 6 months ago here in Kali. So the rep you talked to is an idiot, lazy or just ignorant of Winchester's product line. It is less than $400 and it kicks ass. Damn, I may buy another one just to have spare parts on hand...

Seriously, I hope I helped YOU out. Let us know how much YOU like it after YOU purchase it!

The Winchester service department says they'll maintain a stock of parts for the discontinued guns for ten years.
That's assuming they stay in business that long with the other items they still offer.

Yep, they make a 20g Defender. I actually held one before I bought the 12g version. And BTW, my dealer says they are only discontinuing making the 1300 in the US in March; they'll continue production in Japan.

I've been told by two people at Winchester headquarters here in Utah that the 1300 (and the two rifles) are gone. I specifically asked if any of the three were going to be moved elsewhere & was told no.
It's still open to speculation, but the more logical scenario would be for the guns to go to the South Carolina FN plant as a union buster if they go anywhere. I don't think the Miroku people are set up for volume production on the scale that the 1300 in its variations would require, and the pricing would most likely have to go up.
Don't know where your dealer got his info, mine came from two people in Marketing who should know.
Then again, it's entirely possible that nobody is getting the entire story.

1300

Yes, my dealer gave me the same information this week. They have been informed by Winchester that the 1300 will no longer be available. Happily, I bought my Camp Defender just in time.

By the way....I love it!
