Defective Ammo

I received few boxes of Speer Gold Dot's, 165gr. .40S&W & 147gr. 9mm, the other day from Natchez. I happened to be looking over the 9mm rounds and noticed something fairly disturbing....On one of the rounds about 25% of the primer is missing. It also has a 'ridge' around the edge of the primer, kind of like the center has been depressed and the edge, for lack of a better term, has been squished out. The primer is perfectly round except for missing section...

Any thoughts on this, what might have happened if it was fired, etc...??? Also should I send the lot back or bring this up to CCI/Speer???

Thanks,
Medic

Wow, probably good that you notice it. You can bet that a good portion of the chamber pressure would have vented out the wrong end. Possible repercussions are numerous. As for the ammo, most suppliers stipulate that you can not return it to them, for any reason. Though it's probably not a batch problem, I would contact the manufacturer immediately. Sometimes, you may be pleasantly surprised by their efforts to "make it right" by you ;) They may want to see the round in question.
