I think the 180 is the best. But I feel the .40 lacks penetrative power compared to the 9mm.

Assuming similar bullet types at standard loadings, the 180-gr bullets should give superior penetration to anything lighter. Naturally, a 155-gr FMJ will likely penetrate deeper than a 180-gr JHP.
