Dedicated Range gun?

Is your primary range gun dedicated for range use?

Is your primary range day gun (the one you shoot most often) one you save just for the range or other purposes too (home defense, concealed carry, etc?) If it's different do you carrying the same make/model gun as you practice with?
 
I had a range gun, CZ75bd. Once I discovered the P01 does everything the 75 can and more, I decided to sell it.

Now I also have a 97b but it gets carried on occasion despite it's size and heft. I'm a firm believer in carrying what you use at the range.
 
I never really thought about it but I guess I do have a dedicated range gun . It would be my Savage MK2 FV 22lr . I almost never take the same guns more then twice in a row . Im always trying to work on something different each time .How ever the MK2 always goes with . My Ruger 22/45 always goes as well but I don't always shoot it . In fact the Ruger has been with me the last 3 times i've went shooting and it never came out of the case .

I've been doing alot of AR and 308 bolt shooting lately but I think I'm going to start working on shotgun the next couple times .
 
Your range gun should be the same gun you carry and used for home defense. In my opinion, even the same model isn't the same gun.
 
I have a training version of both of my defensive firearms.

I also have a .22 version of both of them as well.

Advantage Arms conversion of the Glock 19 and a M&P 15-22 for the Colt 6920.
 
Some of my favorite range guns are ones that I don't carry, mainly because they are simply too big for comfortable carry in my circumstances. These include my Sig P229 and my CZ 75B, and of course my .22s would fall into the range group as well.

Kreyzhorse's point is a good one, and I always make sure that some of my range time is devoted to shooting those guns I do carry on a regular basis, such as my Bersa .380 and my Kel-Tec P-11.

I also have some "mid-size" guns that could fill either role.
 
If we define a primary range gun as the one with the most rounds through it, then I, like an earlier post or two, have a .22LR that fits the bill. I also agree that it is important to regularly practice with any pistol that you use for SD, though. Every pistol feels different, and evaluating reliability is also valuable.

I guess that puts me in the first category, even if it is somewhat half-hearted.
 
I shoot so many different guns all the time I hardly ever take the same gun more than a few times in a row. I also have many different carry guns and many more that I use for HD. While I shoot my carry guns a lot, I shoot the other's far more.
 
All of my guns are range guns, and each of them has another use from small game hunting and plinking to HD to SD to hunting large game to competition. If it was only good for one thing it would be almost useless in my opinion.
 
Really none of the options defined me. I usually take 5 or 6 guns at a time to the range. I have about 6 guns that three or so of them will go every time, then whatever else strikes my fancy comes also to round out the 5 or 6.

When do I get to shoot the other 100 guns? Should I sell them?

Does anybody play golf with just one club because using the entire bagful is just too confusing?
 
My primary range gun is also my nightstand/go-to weapon - Beretta 92. I know it the best and shoot it the best.

It's also my cold weather carry. Warm weather carry is a different make and model, but exact same manual of arms aside from takedown procedure.

Why change what works?

Secondary range gun (GP100) also resides in nightstand and is the one to hand the wife if SHTF in the middle of the night. She's a revo' gal so it works

One of my HD guns is a Berreta 21a (Bobcat) 22lr which I run shoot the **** out of it the range. Bad gun at first, but is now super fun. Never did clean it yet, just the bore.:eek: 2000-3000
 
i don't have a range gun, i guess i go through fazes. some i take with me more often than others. but my carry gun almost always goes along.
 
Mine would be my S&W model 18. I have a 9mm for carry and a 1911 for home defense. Nothing is more pleasurable too shoot than my S&W though.
 
Didn't vote because I don't know what you mean by a "dedicated" gun range.
I have a 35 yard range at home for fun and practice.
My club has a range I can shoot at any time but it is about 50 miles away.
There is also a public range I can use but it is unregulated and often frequently occupied by idiots.
I do wish there was legal season on the idiots.
 
I shoot my M&P9c every time I go to the range. It's my carry gun.

I am in the process of saving for an M&P 9 Pro. Same manual of arms, better range gun. The practice transfer over to the Smaller M&P as well.
