Decocker vs. Manual Saftey on the CZ 75 Compact

I am planning on purchasing a Cz 75 compact and can not decide between the Manual saftey and the Decocker Lever. Any input on personal exprience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is the decocker also a safety, or does it just drop the hammer? I don't like the idea of routinely lowering the hammer manually, (and I don't like the idea of DA in general). If you are going to use the gun in DA/SA mode, then the decocker is probably the way to go, especially if the decocker also serves as a safety.

I have a full-sized CZ-75BD. If the compact model is the same, the decocker is not a safety. It lowers the hammer to the half-cock notch, which decreases the trigger pull for a double-action first shot.

When released, the decocker springs back up into its original position. There is no "manual safety," the gun is always ready to fire if there is a round in the chamber.

I just ordered a CZ-75B, the kind with a 1911 safety not a decocker. I don't like the idea of lowering the hammer manually and I won't carry a pistol cocked but I really wanted a geniune CZ-75 and a saftey and the decocker dosen't work as a safety it only lowers the hamer to half cock (I think it's half cock.)

I checked up on the safety at http://www.czub.cz/homea.htm The BD compact has a decocking lever, a saftey stop on the hammer and a firing pin saftey. That is the same for the cz75 D Compact.

The CZ 75 Compact has a manual saftey, a saftey stop on the hammer, and a firing pin saftey.

I am not sure if the saftey stop on the hammer is the half-cocked position or not.

If you don't intend to use the pistol cocked and locked and if manually dropping the hammer makes you nervous then get a decocker model. It takes some practice to manually drop the hammer on a live round. I see nothing wrong with someone wanting to avoid this. Better to get what you like.

You can get the decocker version with an aluminum frame while you can't get the DA/SA model with this setup. The alloy frame makes the pistol a lot lighter, but retains all the positive features of its heavier counterpart. Look into the PCR model.

You can get 13 rounds prebans from www.cdnninvestments.com for about $70 plus shipping. Make sure you specify you want the mags with the curved base plate.

I don't like the compact model because for some reason no matter what grip I try I always lock back the slide with a loaded mag. I've tried all types of grips and nothing works. I don't have this problem with the full size model, however.

There are other options you can explore. There's the IMI (Baby Eagle, Jericho) from Magnum Research. It has a slide mounted safety. The IMI has a true decocker that drops the hammer completely. It's a very reliable, well built, and relatively affordable pistol. I would also consider the EAA Witness made by Tafoglio, although I prefer the IMI. Prebans can be had for both from CDNN.

So many pistols, so little money.
