Decisions...

Talk about a dilemma; I can get one NIB Taur[whack!]... uh, handgun from a manufacturer who shall remain nameless, for 50% of retail, with some minor caveats. Unexpected benefit of one of my activities in the employ of a shop that provides pistol/pp classes.

This manufacturer makes first-class revolvers in two of the calibers I don't yet own: .45 Colt and .454 Casull. I already have two revolvers from this manufacturer and they're both stellar performers.

So, (whine), do I go with the bigass mondo handi-cannon, or the pocket full of kryptonite?

Dear Thugs:
I am willing to die to protect my freedom.
Are you willing to die trying to take it?

Seems like a no-brainer to me. Take the .454 since you can shoot .45 Colts in it all day long. But not vice versa.

I know little about the nameless companys product...but if nothing in particular jumps out at you from the pistols Id consider the calibers.....I own 45lc and its a fine caliber. I would like to own a 454, although I dont att......if caliber isnt enuf to make the decision on......figure whichone you get the biggest price break on.
if all else fails "what are you going to do with it".....nice decision to have to make...fubsy.

Good call, Mal. One of the aforementioned caveats is that less-experienced people get to use it under my supervision. .45 Colt would be a pussycat in that huge Ragi... uh, .454. :)

Rather than a big bore wheelgun, could you track down a nice, mid-framed 7-shot, four inch .357 with adjustable sights? That's the gun from the mysterious gun-maker-named-after-a-Ford-sedan that I find most attractive. ;)

Buzz, we're not supposed to tell who the deal is with, for some silly reason. You know how I normally feel about arbitrary rules, but in this case, I'll make an exception.

Matt, tracking down that patickler piece would be no problem, since the dealer already watches them make tracks out his front door. It's gotten to where he almost can't keep track of them anymore. :D

If you can get two of them .454s for THAT price and bring one of em with you to the End o' Summer meet in MO, I'll be more than happy to take the extra one off your hands :D . Seriously folks!

I just wanna see what happens to the bad guy if you ever use that .454 for self-defense. It will probably suck him inside out as it passes through.

Seriously, it's a good point that you can shoot .45 LC in the .454 Casull. You'd have to decide based on your intended use and maybe the barrel length.

Coinneach,

I haven't seen this personally but I work with people who have. Picture the mondo .454 hand-cannon with the barrel cut down to 3". Only "TA" remains of the original barrel logo. The 3" barrel is then reported with three ports down each side. Said firearm is referred to as the "grizzly sidearm." Just something to think about. It's sort of like a CCW Pi$$ed-off Bovine.

A mad cow? Do we *have* to bring Rosie into this? :D

Carrying the .454 would be a non-starter, I think. The Ti .45 would be a much better choice for CCW, but that's not what this purchase is for. It would be a trail/woods sidearm, doing occasional use as a trainer.

Oy, my achin' head. Would that all my dilemmae were of this nature.

Well, I've shot that particular critter. The grip-shape and the porting make it about the same as full-house .45 Colt or .44 Mag; no big deal.

The owner of the toy double-taps 260-grain hot loads like most folks do 9mm. He was consistently hitting my 185-yard steel plate, and said he was holding about like his usual 100-yard hold.

Ehhhh...Go the .454 :)

Ditto what Mal posted.

So Coinneach, which did you get? Inquiring minds want to know.
