Decision, decisions

I have narrowed my wife's Xmas present down to either a Taurus Model 85, .38 Special with bobbed hammer, or a Kel-Tec P32. The .38 is more powerful, and she liked the feel of one she saw in our CCW class (but she did not shoot it).

OTOH, the Kel-Tec weighs a lot less, and she gets 7+1 rounds instead of 5. Is a .32 double tap equal to a single .38 shot?

She has shot both revolvers and autos and does well with either. I could have her look them both over but I would rather this be a total surprise. Any comments on either gun are welcome.

I have pulled the trigger on the P-32 a few times and it is not bad compared to the longer pull of the .38.

Both are excellent choices, I just happen to own both weapons you mentioned, and both are superb...

I guess it all comes down to what her needs are and her proficiency with either weapon.

I personally would lean more towards the revolver with bobbed hammer as with a misfire
it only requires a second pull of the trigger instead of a malfunction drill. (which when you are under life and death circumstances can take up precious time)
Also, you can hold the weapon at the ready inside your coat pocket and not worry about jamming the slide if you are forced to suddenly open fire.

Now you may ask "Why worry about firing your gun while it`s inside your pocket?.."

Sometimes you will want to be finger by the trigger and ready without alarming anybody or committing yourself, like on an elevator with a spooky looking stranger (especially if your a woman) or if you are forced to go into areas that have a bad element or are suddenly spooked by circumstances and or your sixth sense tells you that somethings not right...

It`s better to merely have your "hand in your pocket", than to actually have a gun OUT around those who might view YOU as the badguy...

Talk to the dealer and see if you can return it for the "other one" if she prefers. If you know ahead of time whether it's ok to exchange, it will make your decision a little less stressful.

IMHO, the shrouded hammer .38 is far better protection, especially loaded with +P ammo. However, the Kel-Tec is a lot more likely to be carried all the time. Good luck.

P-32. Hands down according to my daughter. 9.2 oz fully loaded. The belt clip is all you need to carry. I disagree with the finger on the trigger in a pocket. Maybe along the side of the gun, but not ON the trigger. Too easy to have an ND! Load it with Fiocchi and you have 7+1 of heat.

Rajin,

Absolutely good point...

I have edited my post to reflect proper safe handling. :)

i assume this will be a carry gun so may depend on where she'll carry it the most. the P-32 will fit a lot better in smaller purses.
