Deciding Whether or Not to Continue Carrying My D Frame

It's been quite a journey.

Circumstances dictate that I have to carry in deep cover, and the Smartcarry has fit the bill perfectly for several years now.

My custom Cobra has been the perfect carry piece due to its size, shape, weight, and self defense capabilities.

Just yesterday I put 100rnds of wadcutters through it at the range, and I can shoot accurately.

But Ruger has now come up with a slim, 11 shot, 9mm semi with a manual safety. A revolver satisfied my safety requirements when carried in the Smartcarry rig, but a slender 9mm semi with a manual safety could be a game changer.

I'm just rambling out loud trying to make a decision here.

I understand the need for a new toy but … It would be a tough sell to try and pull me away from a revolver that I could shoot well! :)

Try the 9mm out first, Doc. I've been packing a long time myself and there are just some things a small revolver does better than anything else. I'm casting about for a small backup, for easy access with the weak hand.

Despite all the advances in deep carry autos, a Cobra or J-Frame is still mighty hard to beat.

You should get rid of that old revolver! You know they don't even make those things anymore? It is obsolete and unsafe. But, out of the kindness of my heart, I'd be glad to dispose of it for you without charging you a dime! :D

That's a great gun and I don't understand why you are considering retiring it. Personally, I wouldn't have a gun with a manual safety if there was a reasonable alternative. I could understand if you wanted to get a slim auto to carry in addition to or as an occasional alternative to your Colt. But for goodness sake, don't just replace the old girl!

I to have carried a long time and now carry a pf-9. I also have a slightly lighter when loaded charter ulra lite 38 . The pf=9 if you lay the revolver over it is close to the same size and both fit in my pocket the same. The pf-9 is thinner byfar. I can shoot both well. Just depends on what i am doing as to the one i carry. Pf-9 mostly byfar. But i love revolvers Shoot that ruger and see how well you like it.

100rnds thru the SR9C this afternoon at the range.

Performed flawlessly with both mag's and hardball and HP ammo.

However, I've assigned it to car duty and will continue to carry the Cobra.

Taurus MilPro got bumped from car duty and sold.

Well, if you decide to get rid of the Cobra, I will adopt it to keep mine company. :D

It is lonely with the other semis and SW revolvers around it.

Keep it and buy the Ruger if you like it.
