Decided on my new wheelgun

Decided to get a new carry revolver. Ruger redhawk .44 mag with a 5 1/2" barrell. I will replace the factory wood with hogue rubber, and replace the sights with the gold v dot iron sights. Went to sportmans warehouse last night and the only one they had was the display gun which was fine with me until I started to look it over. The first thing I noticed was carbon residue rings on the cylinder face. The guy said it was from factory testing but I find it hard to believe Ruger would ship a dirty gun.At closer inspection I saw a bunch of scratches around the screws where the gun was taken apart without much consideration for the stainless. And the grip screw was all chewed up.Needless to say I left the store with my $500.00 still in my pocket and very dissapointed. Theres a gun show in town this weekend and I guess I'll try there.I'm sure glad I looked that gun over because they sure would not have let me return it!

good opts.

I got a used super redhawk 44mag for $500 its 9.5" barrel and the hogue rubber grips I put on it are a thing of beauty in my mind.

If I was you I would look into the redhawks and blackshawk (hunter's) with the ruger mounting slots and rings, you center and site in your scope and can remove and replace it without losing your zero. Also keep an eye out for a Dan Wesson 44mag or 445super mag these guns are built with less parts than a S/W and some have inter changeable barrels, I really like my 15-2 pistol (revolver) pack it has 2.5,4,6,8" barrels.

look up these names on google since I am too lazy to check my bookmarks, you can find some nice guns that other people have already invested in and will be able to find unsual firearms.

Why dont you just have that dealer order you one from the factory for a down payment. you should get it in a matter of days?

This gun will go along with my sbh hunter with a nikon eer scope 2x.That is my whitetail gun. the new one is just to have one to carry around the deer lease.

I ordered a Redhawk like the one you described direct from the factory. But when I bought it home, some of the cylinder was not blued and covered over with grease. Ruger replaced the cylinder free of charge. Makes me wonder if yours came from the factory or it was a return.

Not commenting on the obvious flaws you found, but most new guns come with 2 or 3 dirty chambers from factory test firing. The factory don't always clean them.

I have bought a few NEW rugers and they all come dirty to some extent , They dont clean them aftrer test firing them as that would be a additional exspense . as for the buggered up screws and what not thats another story .

Gotta love the Redhawk .44, built like a tank especially if you're going to shoot +P+.

340 gr. LBT-LFN GC . (1478 fps / M.E. 1649 ft. lbs.)
NEW HEAVY 44 MAGNUM +P+

This new load is designed for only certain revolvers that have the cylinder length to handle it. They are as follows. Ruger Red Hawk, Taurus Raging Bull and Dan Wesson Revolvers.

The Hogue grip is nice, I too hate the sights will be looking to replace them sometime.
