December 18th, 2000 for massive civil disobedience

Setting a date of December 18th, 2000 for massive civil disobedience can only work when those daring to see the vision, daring to participate will agree. A good name that was suggested was "Truck Stop 2000." - The day Real America stops. Unless someone has a better idea, then America - set your sights - your target date there. The vision and goal must be made clear: George W. Bush will become the 43rd President of the United States, or America - ALL OF IT - will be closed for the holidays. This is not because we necessarily support the Texas Governor, or support his policies, but we support the Constitution and the Rule of Law. Like the recent truckers of Europe who saw themselves losing their ability to make a living due to high fuel taxes, we find ourselves facing a government who fears its people, attempts to take away our liberty, flaunts the Rule of Law, refuses to accept defeat, and has poisoned our democratic and Constitutional process. Those truckers, and those who supported them fought back. And like brave-hearted Scotsmen, they fought hard, and got their tax relief. There have been those among us who say taking such pro-active steps is troublemaking. We are "threatening" them or the government itself. I say to them, whose government is this, anyway?
This nation is not and was not built by politicians, lawyers, pundits, or Hollywood Stars. It was built, and is maintained by the rugged, individual sprit in all of us. Those of us who swing the hammers, drive the trucks, work the fields, raise our children the right way, pay the taxes, send our sons and daughters to battle, and dare THINK for ourselves are what makes this a Free Republic. It is those of us, who are outcast in those red areas. America, the voice you have in a Democratic, Constitutional Republic is being threatened. Are we going to take it back, or wait for someone to do it for us? YOU have to take the initiative. YOU have to spread the word. YOU have organized with the people you know. No one has asked you to commit a crime against the state. No one has ever said to commence shooting. Your actions (even the threat of them) might cause the enemy to fire on us first. And yes, the State-Sponsored Media - just might say bad things about you. Well, America - it's time for you to GIVE them reasons to call you names. Make them re-active. We can't sit around and wait for the right moment in history to stand up and be counted. That time and place will never just drop in our laps. America, you know that our opponents WILL NOT back down. They don't care about the courts. They don't care about the rule of law. They only care about winning. And they will do whatever it takes, because they believe that you, the REAL AMERICANS, won't do anything to stop them. This may be our last chance.
Is it worth it?

Um, sure, although it's debatable whether what I see being suggested is civil disobediance or just a constitutionally-protected protest. (A question that's more interesting academically than to the action since the state will almost surely interpret it as the former. Besides, I'm probably in a minority in thinking blocking roads is a legally protected form of protest. :)) I'm happy that people are involved in politics and protest, even if I don't agree with the whole agenda. H*ll, maybe if more Americans start excercising their rights than the **sholes in power won't be able to keep violating them more and more.

Anyway, my actual point in posting to this thread is to say that there are a lot of people who are unhappy with the way the elections/political system proceeded whose goal isn't necessarily to see Bush as the next president. By setting that up as your goal you are excluding those people from being your allies. Of course, that my be necessary for your protest _if_ your main point is to see that Bush is elected. (Which, granted, is a big enough deal to be a main point.) If the point is a more general protest about the growth of state power and lack of political participation and power of the majority of the people than you might find that a coalition can be formed. Now that I write that down, however, I think that your point really is the more specific "elect Bush." In that case, it's important to keep a focused message.

some responses i have gotten

For years I have watched our country being stolen from us, and our rights and freedoms slowly chipped away. Many people talked about a "line in the sand", but nothing ever happened. One reason is that the government is so big and so dispersed that it would be like trying to fight a "willo the wisp". How do you give such a thing a death blow? What can you do locally? Blow up your local post office? The post office is one of the few governmental things that actually does us some good. And then I was sitting and looking at the vote map, by county, of this election. Almost the whole country is for Bush, with Gore's supporters in just a few large population centers such as L.A. I thought of LA and when I once lived there. The mile after mile of tract houses and the interstates with mile after mile of bumper to bumper cars all moving close to 60 mph. Suddenly I remembered when I was in college and my professor explained what REAL "gridlock" was. According to him, if enough wrecks happened at the same time(three), in the right places(Certain exit ramps), and it took a total of 45 minutes to clear each blockage, the LA freeway system would never move again. So instead of guns, what if a lot of patriots let their cars run out of gas on the interstates, near some of the big cities that supported Gore, at rush hour? Even if we did not hit the just right combination to terminally lock the interstate down, we would certainly hurt the income of our enemies and show that we are not going to sit by and let them steal our country any longer.

Needs to be peak rush hour to be most effective. Even as few as ten people should have an impact that would be noticable. Think what 100 could do! If your car ran out of gas the very worst you could get would be a ticket. If this gets going, we could pack our trucks with a barb=b[que grill, some food, and drinks and have "freeway parties", where we invite all those stopped around us to come on over, eat, drink and talk a little politics. I am 14 hours away Tallahassie, so I won't make this one, but each of us has a nice interstate close by that we can shut down, so nobody has to be left out!

that just migth work. 1 thing ourleaders understand is cash & profit and if the ol'US of A grinds to a halt how can they line their coffers with our money via taxes. looks like we'll get to use up all them Y2K supplies after all. even though the old moot in me would love some pay back, the christain i me hopes it will not come down to a shootiing "protest". the 1st losses here would be the very old & young innocents if that was to happen.

i will e-mail, call & speak to as many people about this as i can

CALLING ALL TRUCKERS ! TRUCK STOP
December 18th: Bush - or America Shuts Down!

Truckers! Don't let them Steal the Election from us!

If you believe the election is being stolen from us, let your voice be heard. On December 18th, if our candidate is cheated out of the election, we are asking to you join our protest.
They are waging a political war against us, because they think we can't and won't fight back.

Do truckers have to bear the whole burden?

Will_you_refuse to work until Bush is confirmed President, starting 18 December?

If this nationwide strike pulls off, what other use is there of our economic power? We are killing S&W. Citybank reversed its policy with lightning speed.

Don't really mean to be joking in proposing a monthly "stay home and play with your guns day" until our rights are restored, but I do hope you have a better idea.

Jon, In short, a run on the banks would be a catylist to systematic disruption of our whole society.
Anyone else think maybe thats just what we need ?

Hmmm. December 18th. Hmmm. I don't have any classes that day.

Hmmm. How relaxing it would be to take a nice slow ride at 45 mph (minimum speed limit is 40mph) with some other (s)low riders around the busy interstate highways of our city. Starting at 7AM local should be nice. And again at 4PM should work.

Side by side, enjoying each other's company, riding along 20 miles per hour under the speed limit - 35 mph slower than usual traffic flow.

Just think how clear the roads would appear in front of us.
Hmmm. How nice.

If I got a ticket, I'd have cash on hand from withdrawing cash from each account down to the $101 balance required to avoid service charges. So cash would be no problem.

How relaxing it would be for us all to "slow down" and "smell the power, er, FLOWERS." ;)

Both of these ANYBODY can do legally and definitely have a major impact! These are good!

It has been asked "Have they no shame?"

To have shame you must have values, ethics, and morals that are external to ones self.

Standards that come from the creator.

If one doesn't believe in the creator, one cannot have shame.

And it will be to their eternal shame in the end.

Because some people are (justifiably) upset about the election, they are planning to make their point by:

* Blocking the public roads, which will get attention but may also cause lots of ordinary citizens to be late to work, possibly getting them in trouble with their employers, maybe costing them their jobs. Perhaps an ambulance or fire engine or police car, on the way to a code three, will also get stuck in traffic. Rest assured that the media coverage will not focus on root causes of the protest, but upon the unfortunate results and the carnage when road rage is magnified a thousand times.

* Withdrawing all their money from the banks in an attempt to start a bank run panic. The last time that happened we had a decade of financial depression. The whole country suffered, but the ones who sufered the most were not the super-rich or the super-poor, it was the folks trying to keep a job and raise a family.

I strongly urge everyone who feels moved to protest to do so in ways that will not inflict "collateral damage" on innocent bystanders. I also recommend that everyone sit down and read "The War Prayer" by Mark Twain and think about how it relates to the current state of debate.

what i'll be doing

anyone in a medical, rescue, law inforcement, etc. should not take part in this. leave it to the ones of us that are not need for emergency help, & by all means never get in the way of a rescue vechicle.
if you will open the above flyer & check you will see that they are saying
- "We know this is a lot to ask, but if you believe in stopping the madness of this election - join us - we will stand with you. We are urging others to call in sick on the 18th with the "red flu.""
i took that to mean if you are not a trucker here is what you can do to particpate in the demonstration. so i will be calling in that day to let them know i wont be in.
this could work & if it does, it will be a small price to pay.
take care

A GREAT IDEA!!

This is great idea. I will withdraw my money, I will drive slowly on the highway - hopefully with several others so we can stop traffic, and I will take off work.

I hear what you are saying David Scott - but my freedom and the preservation of the rule of law is worth it - BIG TIME!!

Yes, I will! Let's start moving on this. Why not have a national call sick of Gore day? I'm in and I know that the Mrs. will also. Hells bells, if we can get even 10% of the American work force to take the day off, the message will be loud and clear. We have spent enough time in talk, let's do something.

I am willing to help organize something in the Tucson, AZ area and surrounding area. Do I have any takers and others willing to lend a hand. If so, email me off the list at jportale@gci-net.com

Let the battle be joined and cry Freedom!

YES...but it should be the 16th

I'm in!

But I really think this should be done BEFORE the 18th, in case any electors were thinking of voting "the will of the people" we need to show them our will.

I have a case of the red flu. You see, I live in the red part of the county map that you all have seen, and the thought of the evil blue part of the map controlled by Al Gore stealing this election has made me SICK. I CAN'T WORK--I'VE GOT THE RED FLU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
