My question is if Taurus makes so many POS guns how come they are still in business? wouldn't they be outta business if their products sucked that bad? I heard their Pt 1911 is a good seller.

Because they are priced right. People are willing to accept a lesser product if the price is right. Let's be honest, while they are not the favorite guns among gun enthusiasts, they go "bang" everytime. This board caters to gun enthusiasts, who tend to be tougher gun consumers than one time casual gun buyers. In my opinion, most of Taurus' customers are casual gun buyers. A guy goes into a store and sees a Beretta 92 and the comparable Taurus. The guns look alike, feel alike, yet there is a big price difference. Which gun do you think they'll buy?

Again, this is my opinion. Some gun enthusiasts will buy Taurus guns for their own reasons.

Taurus makes some decent guns and they make some rubbish guns. The problem is, you don't really know what you bought until it's too late. My Taurus .38 seems all right, not great, but ok. However, I'm not sure I'm ready to roll the dice again. Some of the hate taurus threads say that their revolvers are fine and the autos are rubbish. Other threads, it's reversed. Which tells me that they are both questionable.
The ones that work right, people seem to enjoy immensely.
FWIW, I've been told that their customer service is decent.
I would like to see Taurus turn out a consistently good products. Quality arguments aside, they make some nice looking guns.

I really wish that Taurus would get their act together and get the quality under control as I really like several models they offer. But, after having miserable experiences with 2 revolvers, it will take a lot of positive comments over a considerable amount of time before I will spend another dime on a Taurus firearm......I just wish that the situation were different.

Internet Taurus bashers will come out of the woodwork to pass along what they've read online discrediting them based on third-party sweeping generalizations.

My experience with Taurus is limited to their revolvers, and it's been a positive one.. All of them have lived up to my expectations since about 1995

Please, that is such a juvenile argument...
There will always be people who believe they can get something for nothing, and are willing to spend a bit less and hope that they will get lucky.

Many, many gun owners will admit to this (if they are honest). I bought a Rossi once and a Taurus once, because I believed they were a good deal.

Those were not the only examples, but they were some of the most poignant ones.

As long as there are new buyers who believe they can get something for nothing, Taurus will remain in business. And Taurus threads will continue to populate this (and every other) board.

In my semi limited personal experience with Taurus I would have to say that they turn out a decent product. Yes it is not the highest quality and will not satisfy some of the gun owners. But, the one I have and the ones my uncle has work flawlessly. Mine is the only one of it's niche that I care for, so it's not so much of a price point as it is my favorite product out of my specific wants.

I do however hear a lot on boards about Taurus problems. I really feel that many of the negative is said by those who have not even tried them.

I have had more problems with Sig than I have Taurus.

I am not saying Sig is bad, what I am saying is that every brand of gun maker has sold problem guns.

I manage an inventory of a couple thousand guns at a local sporting goods store, and I send back as many Taurus revolvers for warranty service than ALL other handguns combined. On the other hand, I've sent back exactly ONE Taurus auto, and that was due to a relatively minor problem with the front sight.

I see several PT1911's at the range. No one seems to have a problem with any of them. We had another semi auto at the range the other day, cannot remember what the model was. The owner liked it just fine also. Our Club Secretary has a PT1911 in 9mm that he really likes. It is very accurate also.

In revolvers they make a few that Smith seems to neglect. Like J frame and K frame 22's, 22 Mags, and the 327 Federals. Much easier and cheaper to find a Taurus. Then we have the smaller 5 shot 44 Specials.
I have never owned a Taurus, but when the 40 S&W K frame snub is available, I will probably order one.
My local dealer has a 45acp Tracker. If it had a 4" or shorter barrel, I would have already hauled it home. I have looked it over, and it seems to be just fine.
I have handled a few Taurus revolvers that left some to be desired. I can also say the same thing about Smith & Wesson, but with less frequency.

If I find a desirable Taurus, I figure I can tune it up a little if needed.

OK boys and girls....

The OP is asking the whys and therefores of Taurus still being in business when claims of putting out inferior products. He isn't asking if YOUR gun is good or bad....

Taurus is still in business for the same reason that lower end stereo or furniture makers are still in business.
They fill a niche in the market. Low cost is the main thing they have in their favor.
There is a cost though to low cost. Part of that is lower levels of quality control, lower levels of workmanship, and possibly lower quality of materials. It is also possible that their tooling isn't as good.

There are some Taurus designs I don't like, but over all they are fine on paper. Some of them are very similar to designs by major companies.

The best laid plans though don't always lead to the best product.
Imho if Taurus had the same level of craftsmanship, quality control, etc we wouldn't have threads like this.
Instead we'd have threads complaining about the high cost of Taurus.

They are in business because people do not heed others warnings. Not EVERY gun Taurus makes is a lemon... but honestly with my job I can tell you ALOT are. I will never buy one, just based on what I see come back into the store. We even sent brand new guns back to them that we refused to sell to a customer.

Just two days ago I had one of their 85's in my hand and the hammer was literally crooked and wouldn't lock back on 2 cylinders... and this gun was NEW. You explain to me how they checked it, test fired it, then shipped a gun.

I have had new Judges with problems... the blued 1911's have a bad finish that will rust and wear off easier than any others I have seen.

The other auto's they make besides the 92 and 1911 are a nightmare most times. I can't begin to count how many Millennium Pro's we have sent back.

Other than Smith and Wesson 22a's we get more Taurus back than anything. We try to limit the supply of Taurus guns we carry in the store, only for uninformed customers to come in asking for Taurus.... with their web print offs and a low low price demanding they need a Taurus because their brother in law says their great.

Like others have said.... its demand... and the blind uninformed consumerism. I find it hard to believe what others deem is well enough to depend on their life. You want to save money and go cheap on a range toy... sure buy a Taurus.... take the gamble if you get one that works correctly.... but anything to stake your life on.... get some hardware thats made tough and dependable with a proven track record.

Taurus lovely customer service............ is flat out Terrible. They have sent me gun after gun back experiencing the same problems.

My advise is to stay away, buy a better quality gun that's used for the same price. You will get guys that will argue and say "Well your wrong... Taurus is great cuz mine is great" Thats fine.. for your ONE example of ONE gun. I handle hundreds of them, statistically at least around me, they are one of the highest returned with problems. Its SW 22a's, Taurus (Revo and Semi) and then Beretta, that I see with issues the most, and Mossberg shotguns.

I know a US automaker that is still in business too, although they just had a news article about how the steering wheel on one of their new cars came off in the driver's hands while he was on the freeway with less than 200 miles on the car.

I won't say which one so I don't get both the Taurus and that automaker's loyalists both jumping on me.

The point is, you can build things that are simply inexcusable and even profoundly unsafe, and people will still buy the things if they:
1) have an emotional attachment to the brand
2) have an emotional attachment to the way it looks/feels
3) just don't know any better (perhaps just uninformed about the history of chronic defects)

WOW! I gotta hear this...for the love of God. PM me all about it.

I had a PT145 locked shut often and would jam. Wouldn't fix itself after the break in period. Gave it a chance even after. It was my second gun..I knew I could get better because my first official was my Glock 22 5,000+ rounds and never an issue. So I sold the darn thing for $250

Also, ran 1,500 through my SIG already and not one issue! (Deja Vu) lol

they have products others dont have. they still make a service grade 357 revolver thats a vey nearcopy of the 357 k frame.

some of their ccw auotos have grips that feel like you have a SAA in hand, and point like one. yet give 15+ rounds of ammo.

sure theyve had issues but every company does. most still hate sw for doing away with pinned barrels and 357 k frames

Yes, you can have problems with any manufacturer. The difference between Sig and Taurus is that Sig will ALWAYS take care of any problem you have with their guns. With Taurus, it's a crapshoot.
