Debating the Spartan 210 for Sporting Clays

My first post, and I really like these forums. Lot of information, very helpful last gun I bought.

As long as I can remember I've done various clay shooting from the old Outers throwers to the more recent sporting clays venue in my area with my Remington 1100 12ga. I've always wanted a SxS, and I've gotten rather tired of picking up my AA casings off the ground (1100 spits them our unusually far). Now I've pretty much decided on the Spartan 210, looking at one with a 28" barrel. I know O/U are the primary choice for clays, I'm trying to decide how difficult I'm making life for myself going for a SxS. Has anyone/does anyone do sporting clays with a SxS? I've found a few posts that refer to hunting with SxS but not sporting clays specifically. Thanks in advance!

There's a group called the Vintagers that hold SxS only shoots. Mostly they favor the high dollar guns and dress as in days of yore.

Hal M Hare, who captains the US Skeet Team, uses a Model 21 and has gone 500 straight with it.

I doubt the Spartan will take you to the HOF, but I'll wager the usual flagon of mead that shooting one at SC will be lots of fun.

And fun is what it's about, right?

If you want a SxS then go for it. I would be more interested in the quality of the firearm than what others think about how it would do. It is all about having fun and enjoying yourself.
Have fun and be safe.

The club I used to shoot with (Connecticut Travellers) had a handicapping system for their monthly 100 target Sporting Clays shoots. They gave a 5 bird handicap to SXS and Pump gun shooters and found over a 15 year history that the handicap stood up.

I shot often with folks who used SXS and outshot me regularly.

One good thing about SXS is that they won't jam regularly and toss hulls all over the place like Gas guns. They do not need o rings or special spring kits and cleaning them is a snap.

I shot with one couple who had Parkers and Ansley Fox guns. The husband claims he never cleaned them, just wiped them down!

Annie Oakley shot SXS and did quite well.

And they do have a certain class about them.
