Death Wish

is the movie on AMC tonight. What a landmark movie it was. I was a senior in high school when it came out, and oh what a furor it caused. Dirty Harry came out at about the same era, and it caused quite a furor also. Charles Bronson died several years ago, but Clint Eastwood is still with us. Does anyone recall what revolver Bronson used? I think that it was a S&W .32 Long Colt, but I am not sure. I wonder if S&W still makes .32 revolvers? This movie was my first real awakening into the world of handguns.

Great info on two classic gun movies. What I would like to know is this. In a later movie in the series Bronson received a gun as a gift. As I recall it was from a client in Arizona or other southwestern state. Anyone know about that one.

As an aside and not wanting to take the thread off topic. Double, I've read thousands of sig lines. Your's is the best ever!

There was another movie with Charles Bronson entitled "Death Hunt," which no doubt was capitalizing on the other series of movies he made. "Death Hunt," however, was based on a true story. The actual names were even used in the movie. Only the plot was fictional. But Bronson's character did use in the movie the same model rifle, a Savage 99, that the real historical character used. Virturally all of the historical elements of the story, including blowing up of his cabin with dynamite, were present in the movie but all of the facts were twisted around.

I believe that's the only movie in which I've seen a Savage 99.

Although it may be a bit off-topic now, yes they do- the Model 632 in .327 Federal Magnum, available in both a spurred-hammer and a concealed-hammer version. These guns will also fire .32 S&W "Short", .32 S&W Long, and .32 H&R Magnum.

IIRC their last traditional .32 S&W Long revolver, the Model 31, was discontinued in the early 1990s. (1992?) S&W subsequently made several revolvers in .32 H&R Mag, including several J frame models and a single K frame, but the last of these was discontinued in 2007 IIRC.

"Joe Kidd" with Clint Eastwood featured a 99 used by Robert Duvall. There were some other interesting guns featured, an 1896 Mauser pistol for one, and a scoped bolt action (maybe a Hotchkiss?), among the usual Winchester 92s and Colt SAAs. Interesting also in that a (D&RG ?) steam locomotive was used as an assault vehicle.

I haven't seen that movie. In very old cowboy movies, one sometimes sees a Bisley but you have to have sharp eyes unless you're looking a still photos from the movie. The main character in "The Grey Fox" had one. I have also seen a Remington autoloader, either a Model 8 or 81, in at least one old movie.

I wonder if the Gatlings that sometimes appear in movies, such as the War Wagon, were original?
