Deal on a new 642 (I thought)

I went to woodbury Outfitters in Coshocton Ohio to pick up a new M&P 380 for the wife (on sale for $259). When I got there I looked at their sales flyer and saw they had S&W 642's (w/lock) on sale for $249! I thought it was a misprint. Long story short, I bought one of each. A week or so later, I get them out and clean them to go to the range. The 642 barrel is canted to the right! I took it to the range and the gunsmith believes the barrel was over torqued during assembly. I called Smith and they're sending a shipping label so I can get it repaired (or repalced). I'm certain they'll take care of it, but a little disappointed that they let it slip through in the first place.
 
Welcome to the world of lack of quality control. Hope you get your baby back soon. You got an excellent price on both those revolvers!!

Should have bought three or four at that price.
You could have sent one back for warranty, put one in your pocket, sold the other two for a profit. :D
 
I own a 642 with Crimson Trace grips. I have had a Big Dot sight put on the front and it is an excellent fighting handgun.

For <$250, even if you have to send it to S&W for a while, that is an awesome deal and well worth the wait.

It might have been an almost new one.
When the previous owner (if there was one) discovered the problem, they may have sold or traded it, rather than mess with it.
There's a lot of those out there.
And, face it, there's also a lot of people behind gun store counters who wouldn't know.
 
That is a great price. I just pulled out the receipt from when I my police officer step-son bought one in 2006: $369.99. Woodbury usually has good prices on most everything.
 
I had the same problem with the barrel being canted to the right. I called S&W; they set up FedEx pickup from my door and the gun was delivered back in about a week.

great price on a very desirable and near perfect ccw gun. the canted bbl is concerning but not unexpected with the new S&W company. one thing they have not slipped on is customer service. they will make it right quickly and at no cost to you.
 
Dude.... Regardless of the QA issues, you got a smoking deal on a fantastic gun.

I understand being disappointed but once you get it back from S&W you won't be disappointed with it ever again.

Seriously....
