Teenager indicted in Washington zoo shootings

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (August 9, 2000 6:42 p.m. EDT http://www.nandotimes.com) - A grand jury on Wednesday indicted a 16-year-old boy Wednesday in the shooting of seven children outside the National Zoo.

Antoine Jones of the District of Columbia is charged with assault with intent to murder each child. Children aged 11 to 16 were wounded, one seriously, when shooting broke out April 24 as thousands of people crowded the zoo for an annual black family celebration.

Jones has pleaded innocent.

Police said two groups began arguing before the shots were fired.

Jones is to be arraigned Friday and go on trial Sept. 12. If convicted, he could get life in prison.

Typical way stories like this progress;

Now will come the interview with his mother about what a nice boy he is, and how he's never been in trouble before. Then his police record will come out, and then his mother will say all those arrests were just misunderstandings. Then he will say that it's all the fault of the person who sold him the gun, that if it weren't for that he would have been buying everyone cotton candy.

Never mind that his daddy is a fairly notorious OG (Original Gangsta) in one of DC's more nefaroius crack crews and is doing hard time in Lorton. Antoine is a practicing jr. scumbag now graduated to the Big Time. There's no excuse for his vicious stupidity and mindlessness. I hope he's tried as an adult and goes into a deep, deep hole for a long, long time.

Anyone know where he got the gun? Dollars to donuts it was stolen.

Good thing the charges included all of those unenforced firearm possesion/ discharge laws that Mayor "Snortin'" Barry is famous for!
