The source is attributed as "ap via bloomberg" but I couldn't find anything at Bloomberg, AP, or the Wash. DC papers. I have no reason to doubt it though, and it will probably show up in other papers.

Maybe there is hope for the Republic yet.

Washington, June 30 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation is teaching new agents that police failure to protect the rights of citizens contributed to the Holocaust horrors of the Nazi era, the Associated Press reported.

FBI Director Louis Freeh said his agency must instruct agents on the evil that can result when law enforcement becomes ``the engine of oppression.''

Trainees receive a tour of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and must write an essay on how Holocaust history is relevant to law-enforcement officials, AP said.

Earlier this month, German and U.S. negotiators reached an agreement on compensating slave laborers during the Nazi era that gives German companies assurance that they won't face further lawsuits related to World War II.

www.apbnews.com has a pretty horrific neo-nazi torture of a horse on its site today.

Should make all of HCI go through the Holocaust museum, read about such modern incidents and then have them sing the praises of an unarmed citizenry.

I ask antigun folk if they will volunteer to be my unarmed bodyguard 24 hours a day since I have some minority risk factors in my background and have faced such.

That usually stops the conversation for a bit.
 
Read this post when it was still on one of the news links. My question is...can we depend of federal agents to really question the ethics of flash banging innocent citizens in the times to come, or is this just another spin doctoring of an agency trying to improve it's PR. Only time will tell if its for real. I certainly hope so.

The irony of the German laws dealing with "truth in history" (at least as far as I understand them) is that the Greens (the modern NASDAP equivalent) get to use them against publications by political opponents...which is to say entirely contrary to the spirit in which these laws were intended.

I looked at the sites you suggested and I wasn't too impressed. The authors seem to think that wiping out a 3-y.o. Jewish kid in Warsaw would somehow fight Communism in Russia or Zionism elsewhere. How that murder of innocent bystanders would affect or deter the NKVD I can't imagine. A bigger irony is that Zionism got a major popularity boost when the proponents of less nationalist views got killed off.

I still don't think that Nazies are warm and fuzzy. I dislike Cheka and all of its subsequent iterations as much. However, I do not suggest that we ought to kill all Germans because of one party's excesses.

In all fairness, the German civilians got screwed over badly when the Russians let the troops have the night on the town (e.g. Koenigsberg '45). Russkies certainly gave the Japanese a run for their money in terms of artocities. However, it is possible to have empathy without endorsing genocide as a response.

I do not endorse genocide as a solution to anything. There is more than one way to commit genocide, one is manifested in the socialist craze of unchecked immigration.

FredJ, almost by definition, gummints are in the oppression bidness. Some are honestly benign in their intent. Others, in the name of benignity--"for the children"--perpetrate the horror show to which you refer.

Gunter, I'm afraid you're confusing the possible results of a policy--pan-Europeanism--with the intent of the policy. It may indeed work out as you think, but please don't confuse stupidity with deliberate evil.

Saw the article on AP Breaking News on 6/30. As a former federal LEO I thought it was an excellent idea. There are exceptions, but IMHO most working LEOs are sensitive to this and try very hard to stay on the good guy side of the line. It is always dangerous to get too gung ho and lose sight of the ground rules. This kind of training and awareness is exactly what is needed to keep things on track. Of course, it would be even better to have real civics and government classes in high school and college so everyone got the word...
 
We forget that we analyze the holocaust in hindsight.

Those people were demonized in the media etc. sufficiently to be dehumanized to the point where the stormtroopers were the good guys.

The way the public feels and the police pat themselves on the back when they bust someone for drugs or having a large collection of assault rifles - THAT's how it was.

When I was young I would listen to my mother's older relatives tell how they were burned out of the Warsaw ghetto and marched off to places like Bergen-Belsen and Auschwitz. But those events were the end game; they would also tell of the preceding years when it was "common knowledge" that Jews had a secret plan for world domination, that they kidnapped Gentile babies for rituals, that raping a Gentile girl was a secret part of the Bar Mitzvah ceremony, and on and on. Even before Hitler rose to power, Jews were demonized and marginalized by a sea of flapping tongues and empty brains.

Anyone friendly with a Jew was a traitor to their race and religion. If a newspaper wrote nice things about a Jew, or failed to criticize Jews, that newspaper would go out of business -- probably due to a fire in the works and severe "accidents" to the editorial staff. Invite a Jew to dinner, and some Gruppenfuhrer in a black coat would write it down, and all of a sudden your business would fall off and your kids would have no one to play with.

When it finally came time to break the Jews' windows and clip the Rabbi's locks and move in with the truncheons and Schmiessers and Rottweilers, nobody cared anymore. After all, it was just a bunch of Jews. They turned their backs and pretended not to see the barbed wire or the mass graves.

I have nothing against the German people of today; many were not even alive when this stuff happened. But there are still some who were there, and who just stood by while it happened, and I will never understand how they can sleep.

Think about it -- who are we demonizing and marginalizing these days?
 
I hope that means many good things, but my guess it's purpose, if any, is to highlight the evils of neo-nazi gun-toting white supremacist types. Remember, among certain crowds gun carrying hunting folks are the ones usually portrayed as de facto racists.

Otherwise, I doubt anyone took it any more seriously than we take the "Diversity Training" and "Sexual Harrassment" seminars we're forced to attend where I work.
 
My purpose was to point out that it's easier to oppress a group if you first paint them as "undesireables". Play a little word association game -- what's the first word that comes into your mind when you hear "Arab"? I'll bet 75% or more of Americans answer "terrorist". I've known plenty of Arabs who just want a quiet life like the rest of us. The sins of the few are blamed on all. Now think about the people who want to associate the words "gun" and "nut".

PS: IMHO, the fact that you don't take seriously the seminars on diversity and harassment justifies the seminars' existence.
 
Unfortunately, only when I go to the gun show do I see racist/hideous stuff for sale.

I also go to the collectible show, coin show, cooking show, car show, mushroom hunter show and others.

At the gun show, you can buy a bumper sticker and patch that says:

Kill All FAGS
If I knew they were going to ban slavery, I would have bought some more

Or a book about the Jewish conspiracy. My, when I was buying one of my many Glocks, I was hassled for my perceived ethnicity by a gentleman at the table.

Never happened at the Mushroom show. Gee!

To support Dave, he's right - if all folks acted like the American Dream is supposed to be - we wouldn't need the seminars. I've been around enough personnel decisions to see the underbelly.

That small subset of the gun culture will be used again and again to taint the cause of the RKBA. Look how Pratt is useless in polite circles. Heston's gay remarks devalue him.
Same with Laura Schlesinger.
 
Glen, I agree some of the Political stuff at Gun shows bothers me also. We had a table setup buy some wannabe nazi's and I am happy to say they were ingnored and did not reapear.
