David Crosby: Drugs, guns and jail time...

I am getting ready to obtain a license to legally carry a concealed weapon in my state.

One thing I am concerned with is staying out of trouble...
Using and carrying the gun to protect myself and family while not running
afoul of the law.

I think back to 60's musician David Crosby and his jail time resulting from
his being found in possession of drugs and concealed weapons.

What exactly happened here? Obviously, carrying illlegal drugs opens one up to legal problems. Was that the primary issue here? Or... was the issue that he did not possess a permit to carry a concealed weapon???

I want to keep my concealed weapon a positive and legal matter.
Just being cautious in the environment we live in where citizens right to
carry weapons for their protection can become problematic (or so it seems).

Advice?

I know nothing of his case but if he got charged for illegal posession of a firearm, he either didnt have a ccw, was in a state that didnt recognize his, or he was in an area that you cannot carry.

advice: follow the rules concerning ccw for your state and you will be fine. do not take your weapon out of state(unless that state recognizes it) and dont carry it in restricted areas. If you do all this you should never have a problem.

use the web to your advantage before hand.

I don't know exactly what you are trying to figure out, but for God's sake, do not use that freakin David Crosby as an example for anything.

Ask Crosby how he never ended up in the military in the sixties. As he did with Brian Lamb on Booknotes a couple of years ago, his quite muffled answer, to which Lamb had to ask him to repeat because he was almost whispering, will be.... burglary. They wouldn't take him because he had a record.

Well...

I don't intend to steer this into a right-wing/left-wing issue, not at all...

My concern was that the media played up the issue (in 2 incidents, I believe), that he was in trouble for carrying a concealed weapon.
BTW, I believe he was fond of .45's.

I don't know if he never obtained a CCW permit, or maybe even had one but there was no reciprocity in the state where he was found to be carrying it.

Like I wrote, I want to carry a concealed weapon, but I want to make sure
that I don't cause myself unecessary legal aggravation.

Trying to learn, that's all... :o

In additon to packing.org I would consult the state website... cuz the disclaimer says they aint responsible if their info isnt updated iaw current or new state laws

1: Get your CCW.
2: Learn the laws of your state regarding CCW.
3: Obey those laws.
4: Do not use, sell, posess or carry unlawful drugs.
5: In other words, don't live like David Crosby.

Problem solved.:D :D
