I purchased a Virginian Dragoon a while back and since then have had a hard time finding any info. about it. I've visited several web-sites that have given me bits and pieces on the history of Interarms, etc., but have found nothing about the the 44 Mag. I have. It is a Interarms Virginian Dragoon, 44 Mag., SA, blued, FS, walnut grips and a 5 inch barrell. The only markings on it are Interarms Alexandria, Virginia, USA...Virginian Dragoon Cal. 44 Magnum, and the serial number. I'm looking for info. on the date of manufacture, parts availability, etc. This is my first time posting....any info. would be great......

Virginia Dragoon

I have the same pistol ecept mine is stainless steel. I bought it new in 1987 from a fellow that had a country store and sold guns. He said he had it for over 10 years. It has an inscribed area on the bottom of the grip frame that says "Liberty Forever" . I think it was made in 1976. I don't know of a place to find any data on time of manufactoring on these pistols. Mine has been a good pistol. Never any problems atall. It has put a lot of meat(venison and pork) in the freezer over the years.

Interarms dragoon 44 mag.

I have a 44 mag. 7 1/2" dragoon !!! I had it custom "black'nd" and put pachmier presentation grips on it !!! It is an older one made by "hammerli" and is a top quility and A great single action pistol !!!
Out of all the pistols i've had and sold over the last twenty five years, this is my one and only left !!! Would'nt trade it for 10 0z. Of gold !!!! The second "notch" on the slide pin that acts as a safety is brilliant !!! My dragoon shoots as good as highest quility hand guns, and always spurs interest when i take it out of it's holster !!!!! The appraised value of my one of a kind dragoon, is currently $850.00

I had a blued Dragoon 44 mag in the late 70's, traded it off for something but it was a nice single action.

Yes, you would have a one of a kind there. AFAIK, Hammerli never made any of the much larger, Interarms-made Virginian Dragoons. Why would they set up the machining for a few prototype guns, only to have Interarms take over the manufacturing in Virginia? Does yours actually say "Hammerli"? If so, please post pictures!

I purchased my V-Dragoon in the late 70s on my Wife's birthday. She has never forgiven me. It is a SS-71/2 in. barrel, stamp dated, 04-14-1974. Freedom Forever is engraved in the butt. I gave 170 bucks for it, and would not sell, or trade it for the world. It shoots like a dream, and I have never had any problems with it. I would like to mount a scope on it. If anyone can recommend a good scope, with good mounts, please let me know. Thanks.

Essiki,
Welcome to the forum!
I would suggest that you may want to start a new thread as this one is over five years old.
I do not even know if many of the other posters still contribute.
You may want to send a personal message to one of the moderaters and ask them, as I do not make the rules, but I think they prefer it that way sometimes.
I lived in DC for a long time and used to go down to Interarms on Prince street. Those Dragoons are really nice guns!
again, Welcome to TFL, this is a great place!

my 44

Thats odd. My dragoon is dated Arp 16, 1974 And the butt is engraved with " Don't tread on me" Anyone ever see this one?
BTW, I could use a front sight, anyone know where to get one?

Early 80's I had a Vd 44 mag sa. 14" barrel. Mounted a 2x Leupold scope. 3" groups at 100yds were common. 3 years later I had 2 deer to the pistols credit. Oh, I also had Bianchi make me a custom across the belly/chest holster for it also.

Nice pistol for 149.00 retail at the time. Sorry to say, it's long gone, wish I still had it.

Sure. Apr. 16, 1974 is the patent date (patent no. 3,803,741), not the year of manufacture. The Virginian Dragoons were first catalogued in 1977. "Don't Tread On Me", from what I understand, is from the 1977/78 period. "We The People" predates yours for 1977.
