dating an 870

I bought my first 870 a few months ago, mainly as an impulse security purchase (somone got broken into down the street) but i have absolutly fallen in love with firearms ever since i bought it. I'm going to be purchasing my first revolver sometime this year.

My question is this. I bought my shotgun used, but in excellent conditon, it showed absolutly no kind of wear whatso ever, and the pawn shop has all their guns sent to a smitthy before they sell them.

Anywho, my remington is a model 870 express synthetic, Super Magnum. It surrently wears an 18 inch factory barrel. the only thing i can complain about with this gun is the slight discoloration the gunscubber caused to my stock.

anyways, i was wondering if anyone out there knows how to date an 870? i can tel you it does have the 2 dimples on the end of the magazine.

Oh, and Dave McC, i took your advice, and took off my pistolgrip, its now a plane jane gun, and i love it.

Any help here would be appreciated.

thanks to all.

Just call the nice folks at Remington on their 800 number, go to customer service via the phone tree, give them your serial number and they will tell you when it was made.

Dating your 870 is OK But get her in by 11 on a school night....

Seriously, 800-243-9700 is Big Green's number. The folks there will let you know the year.

Now go shoot it some.
