Dating a revolver.......

No, I don't mean taking one out to a movie and then maybe dinner & drinks later on.

I mean, trying to figure out when one was manufactured.

It's a no-dash S&W model 617. I do know that it's a 1st year production run model.

The serial # is BPK 83**.

If any of you can be of assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.

BTW........I've been gone a long while. It's nice to be back.

Call up S&W. I have called S&W customer service on a number of my older S&W's and they have always given me the year of production.

Ruger has been helpful if someone wants to know the age of their Rugers.

According to The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, Serial Numbers with the prefix BPK were made in December 1993.
