so how does that compare to a 500 s and w--power wise?

Haven’t a clue, my experience ends at a .460... I have wanted the .500 for a while but wanted one that was factory produced and not customized and Magnum Research took care of that for me.
I know the Linebaugh runs lower pressures than the big Smith which equates to 200-300 FPS less velocity, plus the S&W can sling heavier lead in the neighborhood of 700 grains..

Bullet availability will be a problem as it uses a .510" bullet.

Skip this one and order a BFR in the 500 JRH instead. It uses the same bullets as the 500 S&W

The BFRs are awesome guns and always crack me up lighting one off.

Springfield is having some good rebates on the M1A until the end of March. And I believe PSA has the standard length with wood stock for sale right now for $1200 and free shipping. Right now might NOT be the time to put it on the back burner, the bfg could wait instead?

Thank you for the heads up....I saw that PSA deal on the M1a, just about as good as it gets and very tempting.
