Yesterday, I watched a show on the History Channel about the different military rifles used throughout the century. They covered everything from bolt action, to semi, to SMG, and "assault". Of all of them, the M1 Garand grabbed and held my attention. Everything else just looked like a toy compared to it. I had just convinced myself I didn't need one too. *sigh* Well now I know that I do.

Salute to Mr. Garand!

The Garand will still hold its own as a primary battle rifle, and probably will into the foreseeable future.

It was not without reason that General Patton called it, "The finest battle implement ever created." :D

I feel your pain PreserveFreedom.

It doesn't matter which rifle I'm going to take to the range the Garand always seems to find it's way along.

Well my next question...how much am I looking at for a battle accurate shooter? I don't need to be able to put all eight rounds through a dime at 1000 yards and I don't care about knicks and scratches.

A quick couple of jumps through the DCM hoops and the rapid combustion of five Ben Franklins will score you an arsenal refinished gun ready for issue to a Danish infantry trooper...
