DAO tweaking ........ ???

I am tweaking and playing with my S&W 66 for DAO shooting.

Does anyone make a special mainspring for this?

When I get it backed out to .... j u s t......have the power for reliable DA ignition, the spring ....crinks (?).... when cocked SINGLE ACTION. Can just feel it. Like the spring is really too straight to be happy with the little extra distance to cock for SA.

BUT....the DA is superb at that point.

I have taken the rebound spring to ....JUST....over where it COULD be cut to and still get good trigger return. It's a Woolf that I have further lightened a skosh. Have gone TOO far in past and had slow trigger return.

What I have noticed is that I am in a critical ....HALF TURN..... range on the mainspring tension screw. Back it off 1/2 turn and it is ideal for DAO. Screw it in 1/2 turn and the single action "crink" goes away. But, so also does that REALLY nice DA pull. Not a bunch, mind you, but enough to notice.

A.....QUARTER ..... turn does not do good things for either DA or SA.

Right in a tweener now. No middle ground. Or maybe this is it.

Question is if someone makes a more curved mainspring for the nuts who want to try to hit things DAO.

Have you tried to put more bend in the mainspring then readjust the tension screw? Those two adjustments can tweak at trigger job alittle bit. Not sure is anyone makes another spring more curved.

You can recontour the mainspring to adjust the pull weight also. That takes experimenting so you need to have several if your contour is not right.
Also have you already polished and lubed all the bearing surfaces before tweaking the springs?
