Danish M1 Garand?

Has anyone purchased one of the Danish Garands from CMP? Was it worth it, or would you have rather spent the extra $100.00? I'm not worried about the "collectors value", I just want an extra to shoot with my son when he gets older. I would be interested in hearing any stories about the CMP Danish Garands. Thanks.

kjm,

Go over to the M1 collectors forum at "Culver's Shooting Page" and ask this question. LOTS of guys over there who shoot M1's and have bought the Dane Garands.

You can find numerous forums (mainly related to M1, M14, AR, & highpower competition) along with mondo articles with good info there........

I just my friend's Danish Garand. It's a keeper. It was more accurate than I can ever be. None of the parts or numbers match, but the quality is where it counts. Since you're not worried about collector value, I'd say get one. But as with anything from the CMP, it's pot luck as what you get.

Swampy,
Thanks for turning me on to another excellent site. I didn't find a lot on the Danes, but the M1 information was excellent.

I've bought two of the 'Danish Garands' here in Canada..a Springfield Armory and a Breda.
Both are in nice condition and are excellent shooters. The first batch to arrive here were very good, the next not so good. It is my understanding that the CMP got a nice 'first batch' as well. Go for it.
Incidentally...I was looking at a 'Danish' Winchester M1 Garand today at the same store that I bought my two M1's...it had the original cartouched stock, too...unusual for a Danish Garand.

Having gotten both Danish and Service grade rifles I can safely say the Danish are more than worth the money. Between myself and two friends we have 5 Danish and 4 USGI. One Danish is all GI except for the bolt. The Danish all shoot 4" or under with M2 at 100yds. The best of the 9 is a USGI which stays around 2",if I do my part. The luck of the draw plays a BIG role. Your best bet, from what I've seen, is shoot in a Garand match so you can get 2 Danish, buy all the rifles you can afford, shoot them, keep the best and sell the other(s). Here in Ohio, even Danish rifles in fair shape sell for more than the CMP charges.
