I'm apologizing ahead of time just in case there is already a thread on this. I'm in the process of ordering a Daniel Defense M4 .223/5.56 which will be my first AR. What do I need to know about this AR rifle? Any comments through your own experience will be greatly appreciated both pros and cons are fine with me.

Thank you

The ones I have handled seem of very nice quality, all required staking is good and deep nice feed ramps and finish is quality. That being said I also think the barrels are button rifled and this is a more costly way to do the barrel you will not be unhappy, although I do not own one I would not hesiate to buy/trade for one. Nice choice.. have fun and shoot it alot to get maxium use and knowledge of how it handles...

I own one. Fit and finish are impeccable and it's very accurate, puts my bolt action 223 to shame. You won't be disappointed.

Daniel Defense is a great choice but which version, V3, V4, V5? Barrel profile? Rails? Sights? Make sure you choose the right one for you.

Most DD barrels are now CHF (cold hammer forged) not button and that is desirable.

I recently bought a stripped DD 16" LW CHF midlength upper, added their M16 BCG, a BCM Mod4 charging handle and MOE handguards. Put it on my S&W lower and love the rifle which weighs about 6.5lbs with irons and RDS (without magazine).

Anyway, highly recommended.

Well if you've done your research and like the carbine length gas system the V1 is fine. If you haven't ordered yet I'd look at the advantages of midlength gas (the barrel length remains the same 16" or 14.5", if shorter then of course go carbine gas). I went with midlength gas (V3 or V5) and the lightweight barrel profile as described above. I also didn't go with a rail but DD makes some of the best if you want one.

After consultation with all the wise men above, I have gone ahead and placed an order for my first AR and it is Daniel Defense M4 V3 LW. I can't wait :D:D:D Easter came early this year.

Thanks guys.
