Daniel Boone shotguns

I have been unable to identify the maker of my 20ga. sxs. This Belknap Hardware piece was a one owner from the 1930s and is in wonderful condition with the exception of missing the extractor assembly. Any suggestions? My local gunsmith has checked out the piece and believes it would make a good shooter if we could locate missing part.

My first post in what should be a never ending quest for knowledge.

Found this on Yahoo Answers, so take that for what it's worth, but it might give you a place to start:

Belknap (Loiusville, Ky) is the hardware store you're looking for. It was made by either Savage or Springfield (owned by Savage) and store branded with the name Belknap Hardware. (I've never personally seen a rifle from that store chain NOT made by Savage or Springfield, but I've just been told there might have been one made by Hopkins and Allen. No idea if that's correct, though.)

That sounds very logical. Alot of hardware stores like Sears had private labe shotguns made for them by other companies. I've even heard they used to sell guns at Woolworth, which I vaguely remember as a child BUT they didn't have anything like that anymore.

Greetings RLWII and welcome aboard,

If the Belknap is a Savage (or other mfg.), the model might be identified if you were to post some pics. Hopefully what you need isn't a rare part.

Now go to Numrich Arms and se if they have an extractor assembly.
They do have one for the 120, for the 87N.
They list brands alphabetically and they do list Belknap.
Gotta go look.

The Crescent Firearms Co. section of the 1999 Standard Catalog of Firearms lists 'Daniel Boone Gun Co.' as a name they manufactured for Belknap Hardware of Louisville.

Fwiw, Crescent also made the Essex marked shotguns for Belknap. My father had a 16 ga. SxS back in the '30s. He and his brother shot it loose by the time the war started and my uncle traded it away after my dad enlisted in the AAF. How it got to Charlottesville in the first place is a question they never answered. They were talking about it again a few weeks ago. :)

Thanks!

Gentlemen, thank you for all the info. Crescent is what I have heard/seen most often but there are no markings on the gun other than seriel number and the "Daniel Boone" name. No model numbers are shown. That is what has made this so difficult to track down parts. I will continue the search however.

Thanks again.
