Dan Wesson Pointman

I'm thinking about buying a Pointman Major in .400 Cor-Bon sometime in the near future. Can anyone give me an opinion here?

Only what I posted in another thread. I went to the dealer listed on their web page. A 45 min drive. The owner had never had a DW auto in his shop. He called the dist. and they dropped the line. No explanation. I wanted a .45 & bought a Kimber. Hope this helps.

I can't comment with any kind of authority on the Pointman series, but I can say a few good words about the new ownership of the company. These folks are giving me star treatment regarding a problem I had with my DW revolver. I wasn't even the original purchaser of the gun and they're warranying the gun as we speak. It's due back here Monday (tomorrow). After running it thru the ringer, look for a thread dealing with this.

Another good thing about Dan Wesson Firearms is the fact that your dealer doesn't have to sell them regularly. You can go to ANY licensed dealer and get him to order whatever you want, factory direct, and he'll get the dealer price. If you have a good dealer, he will put a conservative markup on it and you will be paying a lot less than the MSRP price listed on the DW website.

But alas, I've never even handled a Pointman series pistol. Hope someone else can give you the skinny on those.

Cheers.

Their .45's are really nice, and half the cost of comparably equipped high-end builders. For 2002 the full-size models have forged frames, as opposed to earlier cast models. The forged commander-size ones are forthcoming. They had a really nice display at the SHOT show, including an auto-version of their pistol-pac with multiple slides/calibers. Buyer recognition is still pretty low concerning their .45s, so good deals are possible.
