Dan Wesson Pointman 2 minor

Bumming around a pawnshop today and they had a Dan Wesson Pointman 2 minor.

It's a .45 auto I hear was made before CZ got ahold of DW.

Now it's blue finish, kind of dusty and a bit of rust at some corners and has a Kimber mag (of all things.) It also has awful Pachmyr rubber grips.

Missing rear sight and one grip screw also missing (so it may also have a bunged up grip screw bushing for all I know.) Has the old 1911 tunnel extractor to.

Now they want $799 (yes I know it's a bozo price but.. I got a S&W 2 1/2 66-1 Combat Magnum from them for $545, tax included after they went down from $649, without tax!

So I could talk them down due to the missing rear sight (looks like a Novak cut) and grip screws.

So... would $500 be a good price to dicker them down to?

Sub $500 gun. Early cast Dan Wessons and there were issues. They were blown out for around $550 at CDNN before DW became what it is today. It is not a bad gun but not the same as todays DWs.

What was said above , the early DW's are not bad guns but that one sounds like not in the best of shape. In my area a while ago I saw an early Major in mint condition with box & papers go for $499.

Leave it where it is unless you can get it for $350-400, I seen nice non rusty pre cz guns sell for under 600.

Figure sending it for cerakote $250
springs, extractor parts, and smith work $150 {if the barrel is good}
so that is $400 + if you get it for $350 the $50 for some VZ grips and $100 for some sights, that is $900 for a decent gun...

If you use Easton for the coating they have a machine shop and smiths so they can go through it for you, just send the new springs, firing pin, extractor, what ever else you want installed with it, their prices are very fair and their work is good...

To be honest with you, you will really have to want a project and like the gun to get involve, as soon as I see rust, i am not interested unless it is really really cheap, it is the first sign of abuse...
there are exceptions though...
I bought a colt 1911 that had some rust marks in the finish, no more rust the gun shop cleaned it up but you can tell the gun was not stored correctly, they said the women who brought it in found it under her husbands car seat, he had been dead for sometime before she found it!!!

The gun shop never stripped it just sprayed it down with wd40 {I know}, they paid $200 for it and said I could have it for $225, so I grabbed it...

I did the work there on there bench, I pulled it all apart, bought a trigger kit, all the extractor parts, a pin assembly, and a spring kit, all the other parts I cleaned up like new, the barrel looked like it was never fired, we shipped it to Easton a few days later, I coated it 2 tone {green and gloss black opposite of the springfield mc} and it came back aobut 2 weeks later all assembled and coated like new, cost me $300 total for the coating job {but I had a few mags done as well}. I had it a while and then traded it in for something else I wanted, it was a decent shooter but looked really nice...

So anyway, check the bore and ramp area, if its good, I would only go as high as $400
