Dan Wesson Model 15-2VH Question

I came across a like new "Pistol Pack" .357....
It has the case, a 2.5", 4", 6", 8" & 14" barrels. All barrels are fully shrouded with vent. ribs. The two longest barrels are also "heavy".

The box & papers also come with the gun.

I have never purchased a D. Wesson gun but have heard they are pretty nice. This one has a great SA but the DA is nothing I'd want to use if in trouble...tough to stay accurate with that DA trigger pull!

I'm a revolver "kinda guy" these days...would anyone care to offer what this model is like/thought of and if it's worth the money in the $700 range.

Thanks.

Bob

700 seems a bit high to me, but I guess it is new in the box. The guns are nice and wear in quite well. In general the current manufacturer and the Monson (city address) are considered the best best. The Palmer guns are not considered as nice.

I have two, a Monson in 357mag and a DWI (current maker) in 22. Frankly, they are very accurate and really quite nice. The switch barrel concept makes cleaning a breeze and switches can be done in less then a minute.

My Monson lost the cylinder stop once after a few hundred rounds of full power 357 mag blue dot reloads, but it was only a $2 part to tap in another. My DWI has been a champ so far.

The last time I check them out, used barrels and shrouds were running about $125 a set, so you can do the math.

Hope this helps.

Here is my 722 after a good day at the range. 50 shots per target, 15 yards as I remember or it might have been 25 yards.

Thanks Mr. Eick,
I don't have a burning desire for the gun & barrels, but one day I'd like to get one of the DW guns.

I favor revolvers...S&W are my favorites...1982 and back.

I aapreciate the reply...NICE shooting regardless of 15 or 25 yards!!

I had a dan wesson with the 8 inch barrel and heavy shroud. it shot quite well but the adjustable rear sight was a piece of crap. I was shooting handgun silhouette with it so repeatable setting were a requirement. I also had a dan wesson 22 with a 6 inch barrel and the standard shroud. the problem was that the chambers were too rough and you couldn't eject the spent brass without pounding on it. it was sent back to the factory twice without being fixed. another home was found for both of them

Had an old one

I had the blue 357 back in the 80's. The only barrels I had were the 4 and the 6 which I bought seperately. Did not spend anything like the money for the whole kit as that would be out of my range then. I was duly impressed with the accuracy and don't remember any particular problem with the DA but usually fired SA at paper. The only problem I saw was that there was no bushing on that one around the firing pin in the frame, and it had peened out slightly from use. Leaving a slight raised rim around the firing pin hole. ON another gun you would just replace that bushing but on DW you might have to get to a smith. Too high of an edge and you get rotation binding and if the hole gets bigger, primer flow possibly. But it sure shot well.

steveno & Tom2,
Thanks for the imput...I'm a bit shy on the price. I know what to expect with a S&W...(kinda) but having no experience with DW, I'm going to look on the lower end of the price spectrum.

Take care.

Sights

ALso, I got one of the sets of multi colored front sights for mine. That was kinda neat as you could change front sights in a minute and try whichever color insert you liked. Maybe red for sunny days and yellow for cloudy? They should have made one with a tritium insert for use around the house at night!

Pretty good price for a pistol pack, figure the barrel assemblies go for about $100.00 each for the normal lengths, more for the long ones.

Dan Wesson revolvers are usually extremely accurate and durable, my only objection to them is the bulk of the rear sight. (I've had two, a .357 and a .44)

Dan Wesson model 15

I have ooowned 4 Dan Wessons over the years.
I started out with the "dog knot" version, that High Standard started making for them. The Last one was a "High Standard SENTINAL".
Dan Wesson makes a good revolver. Several years ago a local fellow had a "pack" [without the case] in 2 inch; 4 inch; and 6 inch that he wanted
$300 for.
