Dan Wesson M15

I've got what I believe is a 15-2 DW from about 1981. Nearly unfired in the original sytrofoam carton with accessories. I've only shot it once (50-75rds or .38 Special) and was quite impressed in all respects, ie., trigger pull, fit, finish, accuracy, etc. I'm wondering how these or in this case "this" model stack up against the equivalent Ruger or S&W, (K/L frame and maybe GP100 or Speed/Security Six)? Given the condition I'm almost hesitant to shoot it extensively (barely has a turn ring) but I'm not into safe queens yet so as with all my daddy wackers this one will need to earn it's keep. Opinions please. TIA

Hello Richard
I shoot my DW mod 15 against my Rugers GP100 and Blackhawk and the
DW mostly comes out ahead, and I've got thousands of rounds through
the DW, so shoot it and enjoy it. :D My $.02 worth.

Happy shooting

Richard: congrats on your M15....I have two M15's and four barrels (a VH6", V6", VH4", and V2 1/2") Both my guns are superbly accurate and a joy to shoot.

I'd shoot away....you'll enjoy it.

How does it stack up with the Rugers, S&W, etc.? I'd stack an M15 with even today's latest revolver entries.

I have owned 3 Dan Wesson M15 revolvers and found them to be as strong as ANY .357. It is as strong as the Ruger GP-100 and probablly stronger than a "K" frame S&W. You might consider a good spring kit.

As stong as and more accurate most.

Best way to describe the Model 15. Frame is similar in size to the S&W "L" frame. Have no idea how many rounds my Model 715 has sent down range in the past 25 years, but it's still as tight and accurate as the day I first bought it.
If you want to invest in an action job, (though if yours was made in 1981 it's probably pretty good already, make sure you find a smith that knows ho to work on DWs.
You've purchased a great shooter, enjoy it.
Take Care
