Dan Wesson CBOB

I’m looking to buy a new Dan Wesson CBOB. One of the local gun shops has one new, and a new blem as well. I can’t remember what he was asking for them but what are your opinions on their blem guns? What is a good price to pay for the blem and a good price to pay for the regular CBOB that isn't a blem?

Look at the Blem gun and try to find the issue. 99% of the time it is a small surface imperfection. A pit in the material or something of that nature. Then from there determine if the discount is worth the blemishes.

The blemishes never effect function. They are finish issues only. They will also have a sightly different serial number with a upside Y IIRC.

It seems like most of the time the difference between the 100% gun and a Blemished gun is about $150 give or take.

When Dan Wesson guns first got on my radar, a friend let me shoot his. It was a PM9 factory blem. You really had to look HARD to find it. It was a very small blem in the trigger guard. Probably a little porosity that has had NO effect on the rest of the gun.

I would want to see the blem and determine myself whether I could live with it or not. Couple of years ago there were some factory blem PM9s on one of the auction sites. The pics I saw were all very minor.

What state are you in?...
The CBOB is made for distribution in California only and is not sold by DW nationally.
Bought mine NIB for $1475 last year from a CA 'net seller.' Turner's (in CA) recently was selling them in that same price range (NIB about $1500).
DW 'blems' are an excellent buy... usually a VERY MINOR cosmetic blem... and usually go for about a $200 discount.
CBOBs are usually tough to get, so it kinda boils-down to how bad you want one and what you're willing to spend. Usually a LGS will sell them at a premium. If you don't live in CA, get a VBOB... a 'step-up' re: fininshing and fitting and can be had for $1500+ NIB.
They are BOTH 'super' shoots... have several DWs (CBOB included) and they're great pistolas!

Gunbroker has a NIB Commander CBOB lister for 'only' $2499.

Got mine several years ago for less than half that. Still my favorite 1911. Darned nice guns indeed, but not sure I'd go that much for one.

That's insane JWT...
Again, not sure where the OP lives but you can get a VBOB from about a dozen sellers from $1500 shipped, to $1575.
With GB, it's an 'auction' and brings whatever someone is willing to pay!

I purchased the DW CBOB new in 2009 and paid $1,200. For what it is worth, it is hands down the best and most reliable 1911 I have ever owned, including my Kimbers and Colt.

I found two for sale online tonight, both used, one for $1,450 and one for $1,350.

If you make the purchase, you will enjoy the shooting experience.

I wouldn't hesitate a moment to buy a blem Dan Wesson. As others have said, these are very minor imperfections which may go out from other manufacturers without any indication of a blemish or any reduction in price.

I'm from Connecticut and to be honest, I just like the stainless look of the CBOB better than the new duty finish on the VBOB. I'm pretty sure the local shop had the new one for $1550 and the blem for $1350

Ohh i didn't realize they had a stainless VBOB. Thanks! Other than the sights, trigger and grip, are there any differences between the CBOB and the stainless VBOB?

The VBOB is DW's top-of-the-line, flagship model... so it gets alittle extra hand-fitting and internal-polishing/attention.
Years ago, the CBOB had the 'cosmetic' differences you mentioned (trigger, sights, grips, two-tone finish)... but didn't get quite the 'detailed attention' as the Valor. Now they are the same... same size, same parts, same attention, same quality... just different cosmetics!
DW has decided not to go thru the certification process in CA for their Valor, and markets the CBOB in CA exclusively... basically same gun!
My CBOB is one of my favorite 'commander-size' 1911s... dead-accurate and flawless... just like my full-size Valor.

Dang I paid 895 for mine in 2007 and thought that was high . Glad I got it when I did. . Its a great pistol Most accurate 1911 I have. Makes me look good when Iam shooting it.

CBOBs currently sport a forged frame. Back in 2007 and in 2008 (my model CBOB), frames were cast. Forged frames will usually add a couple of hundred to the cost of a gun.

So I have some bad news.. Not only do the night sights not glow at all, but I took the new CBOB to the range today for the first time and after only 8 rounds it jammed up really bad. I made sure it was cleaned and lubed really good before i shot it too. It jammed so bad to the point where the slide wouldn't move at all. Even the gunsmith at the range looked at it and said something is terribly wrong. Back to Dan Wesson it goes...
