I just came across a DW 744 today at a local shop. Stainless,6" *fixed* solid rib heavy barrel with rubber Hogues. This barrel gives it an extra beefy, solid look I kinda like. The 629 Classic next to it looked like a K frame in comparison. It`s in pretty darn nice shape. Lockup is real tight,DA is not bad,SA is light, crisp and really nice (like Python nice). Asking price is $325 which sounds like a hell of a deal to me. I can probably get it for less too. Now for the questions... Are the fixed barrel DWs as accurate as the interchangable ones? I`ve never seen a DW with a solid rib and heavy barrel (BTW it`s also contoured in from kinda like a Taurus, not square like they usually are) are these things at all rare? I assume they`re worth less than the std. models? Can the DW .44 take "Red Hawk only" long OAL heavy bullet loads? What do you think is it a "must buy"? Or should I hold out for a std. model? Marcus
