Dan Wesson 445 Super Mag

I'm considering the purchase of the 445 SuperMag and have had it suggested to consider that there was a period of time in which the quality control at the Dan Wesson Factory suffered considerably. Therefore, it becomes important to know when and in what plant(?) a particular revolver was manufactured. Can anyone verify that this is the case and if so how do you separate the good from the not-so-good? I have been told that current manufacturing standards are high and that accuracy out of the box is superior to S&W and Colt. Thanks, Jay

The general opinion of the "Dan Fans" (myself included) is the current production guns are as good as you can get. They have advantages in that the "guts" are all solid metal or MIM and not sintered like some of the older ones.

If you buy older, you would like to get one made in Monson and not one made in Palmer. Look at the manufactures address on the gun. My current production 722 is actually one of my favorites and my Monson 15-2 is very nice also!

Here is what they can do.

The left target is double action, the right is single action, either 20 or 25 yards.

445 vs 454

The 445 is a great flat shooter with 300gr bullets and an absolute powerhouse for whitetails and black bear but when it comes to bigger game, moose, big bears, ect, it is hampered by the lack of larger bullets for it. With a 300gr bullet it is very similar ballisticly to the 454.
