Dan Wesson 1911 Recoil spring

My Dan Wesson has a very stiff recoil spring, and a guide rod that has to be removed from the front with an allen wrench. Grabbing the top of the slide and racking back when in a combat position is very difficult due to the strength of the recoils spring.

I want to go back to the traditional 1911 recoil guide, spring and recoil plug with a lighter recoil spring,I will use a buffer on the guide. I shoot factory loads and my reloads, all 230 gr.RN bullets, my loads 4.7 grs. bullseye powder.

My question, what pound value would not wreck my pistol with these cartridges, 12#, 15#, 16# ?????

Thanks

Standard recoil spring weight in a 5 inch gun is 16 pounds, I set my 5 inch guns up with a 16.5 pound variable power recoil spring.
Keep in mind that sometimes when using a shock buffer you will no longer be able to sling shot the slide to charge the gun from slide lock. This can be corrected by milling the slide.
When it comes to shock buffers, I believe CP Buffs to be the best, I've tried them all.
I run my defense guns without shock buffers.
