Dan Blather says 750,000 at Million Moron March in DC?

Dan Blather just said that 500,000 to 750,000 marchers showed up at DC yesterday, far exeeding expectation balh blah blah.

Is this a lie? I have not seen the numbers, but I thought that the MMM had about 40,000 show up in DC.

that figure came from HCI, oops i mean MMM
;)
Metro reported a total ridership of 250,000.
Typical is 180,000

The Promise keepers had 800,000 people on the mall

They stretched over 10 blocks

The MMM coated 2 blocks with a big stage
most of them arrived via busses and metroed in.

Obviously Ms. Thomas is still writing for Dan Rather.

A political activist on a local radio show (Phoenix) said that 300,000 people would absolutely pack that place. It wuzn't packed. Did you notice how many wide shots they gave us? I didn't see one. All tight shots.

Propaganda. Goebels would be proud.

No more than 200K. A local radio newscaster said that they'd get 750K if they included the MMM'ers in all the other cities.

Remember, Woodstock '69 had 500K...and we've seen those pics

A local liberal ABC TV station, who has a
system to count accurately said there was
75,000 MMMs and 5,000 of us. With 2 million
gunowners within close driving distance,
why didn't we outnumber them?? The office
people of progun and conservative groups
in the area could have outnumbered them.
GUNOWNERS ARE GIVING AWAY THEIR GUNS BY
THEIR LACK OF ACTION.

Dan Rather never seen an elite left idea he
dident like, sad to say many people watch
and believe him.
(ED)I agree with you I am afraid we are going
to give it away.I believe this to be a critical year,I am donating more and writing
more then I ever have. I feel like everyone
I would rather talk and do my hobbies but
this is so important we must act, if not once
again a small group will decide our freedom.

Everyone... Rosie stated that there were in fact 750,000 people in attendance. Sheesh! You guys cannot count! :) ;)

All the name calling and swearing in the posts regarding the MMM...but where were you??? While it may be true that the MMM attendance figures were inflated, they had a hell of a lot more people on "their" side than we had on "our" side on the Mall on Sunday. Where was everyone??? If we let the NRA do all the talking for us we get what we deserve!!! Show up or shut up.

Damn right, Susan!!!

My pastor once said that at any given time, only about 5% of people have a cold or illness that keeps them from church. So, where are all the members? Sleeping in.

I only use this to illustrate the next point:

I could understand if about 5% or even 15% of gun owners just could NOT make it to the rallies last weekend, but the rest of you should be ASHAMED (whoever you are).
If you won't stand up and be counted, then you deserve to lose your Rights.

We have 80 million gun owners in this country, and two or three tims that many peope who live with someone who is the "gun owner" and supports them.

We could have potentially had 100+ million people show up at rallies around the country.

AT LEAST, we should have gotten 4 million people who are willing to pay NRA dues etc. Thos people should at least have enough drive to get off their butt and go stand for an hour in a rally.
But no, we have a pathetic turnout, considering the numbers we could have had. At the local levels, we actually had a very good turnout, usually outnumbering or matching the anti's, but it is still just a very small percentage of who should have come.
I AM BEGINNING TO THINK THAT I AM FIGHTING ONT HE LOSING SIDE. Gun Right advocates are way too good at sitting around whining and prophecying doom, rather than getting off their asses and doing something about it!!!!! (Note my extreme anger here). We are giving away our Right. We are giving it to an inferior, smaller foe. They are not taking it, we are giving it.

Unfortunately, the Anti's pulled a fast one on us once again. They said that all they supported was "gun safety" and trigger lock sales.
So, a lot gun owners thought "well, that ain't so bad" and a lot did not show up to fight. THEN, at the rally, the MMM changes course and states that they are there for many other regulations. When the MMM started, they did NOT say that they were such a threat to our Rights, and a lot of people did not mind their "child safety" agenda, where they states outright that they were no threat to gun owners, they just wanted child safety. In other words THEY LIED until they got everyone together and on film.

Susan;

Absolutely Right! I don't think there were 5,000, but I'm not good at estimating those things. I have worked gun shows trying to get people to sign letters to their reps and it amazes me what a small percentage will take 2 minutes to sign a few letters.

BTW - I was the cute guy :D with a picture of my mom shooting a gun on my t-shirt.

You guys are MISSING THE REAL ISSUE HERE.

The Million Moron March had FREE NATIONAL PUBLICITY for weeks/months. Free rides into town, buses, cut-rate airfares and hotels, hundreds of fascist corporate sponsors, the whole shebang.

What did the AIM/SAS have for publicity or freebies? I NEVER heard a SINGLE WORD on any national "news" program. Not one time, prior to the actual event. How do you expect a big turnout when the MEDIA actively fights your cause? And how much corporate sponsorship did they have? ZERO.

Get real. Fight the REAL enemies. The media and corporations, who continaully propagandize the fascist cause. Remember, it ain't real unless it's on TeeVee, bought and paid for with "sponsorship"...

This is as real as it gets.

The point remains: We can be our own worst enemy.

I pay close attention to media coverage in the Washington, DC, market and nationally. I was truly surprised at how much local AND national coverage the SAS rally received in both broadcast and print media. Given the numbers that showed up at each (and therefore the newsworthiness) -- I'd say there was a bias toward the SAS rally.

The "freebies" or sponsorship issue is beside the point. Pro-gunners are free to contribute, too, and it doesn't take ANY sponsorship dollars to SHOW UP!! If everyone is as passionate about this issue as they claim here, they would have cancelled their plans and RUN to the Mall or other pro rallies around the country to support the cause. If you are going to sit and whine, or let the NRA be your only voice, we are going to lose.

Cassandra: Amen, Sister.

MikeK: 'Sorry I missed your cuteness. You can tell alot about a guy from what his Mom is like. :D ;)

There are no excuses.

We have the internet now to spread the word. How many people emailed every person they new? If every person emailed every person they knew, then hundreds of millions of people would have heard about this in a couple days time.

How many people went to all the local gun shops and gun shows and handed out flyers to spread the word?

You are saying that since the media does not like us, then we are destined to lose?

We have two choices: get the media on our side, or take the initiative into our own hands and work without them.

The media also banned the Promise Keepers and ridiculed them, but they still got a million people to show up. They did it, so we have no excuse why we cannot. Screw the media, I will NOT lose and I will not accept that as an excuse.
We can sit around and whine about the media while our Rights trickle away or we can get out and fight and win without them.

Ps- I agree that I found the media coverage in most reports to be very fair toward the SAS. In some reports, they favored the MMM, but who cares, we can sit here and cry about it or we can continue the fight.
