Damned lies

I was fuming as I read about the deal S&W made with the Klinton administration. But when I read the last two sentences of the article in this morning's Arizona Republic, smoke started coming out of my ears:
"Also, no Smith & Wesson firearm may be sold at a gun show until the would-be purchaser passes a federally mandated background check. Under current law, gun shows are exempt from the federal mandate."

I find it extremely difficult to believe that the AZ Rep. does not know that this is incorrect. I can just about hear the average fence-sitter say "something out to be done" when they read this out-and-out bald-face lie.

Actually, Chuck B, the agreement entailed no gun purchases allowed at gun shows unless ALL buyers are required to pass a background check. This is to include all purchases made from private parties as well as the already-mandated purchases from federally licensed dealers. But I have to agree with you, they rolled over on us. Of course, you have to remember they are owned by a British company anyway that wants to sell S&W. Can't get their $161 million asking price with lawsuits hanging over their heads now, can they!

Nancy,
Thanks for the clarification, but re-read that last sentence. I'm pretty p.o.'d at S&W, but the point of my post is the lie propagated by the AZ Rep.
