WATCHING THE NEWS AND THE BRADY CAMPAIGN IS WARNING TOURIST NOT TO COME HERE BECAUSE ITS UNSAFE FOR FAMILIES BECAUSE OF THE NEW SHOOT IF SOMEONES ATTACKING YOU LAW.

Not sure what the name of the law is.

Sorry to scream!

They are turning a perfectly good law into a fear machine!!! This worries me somewhat! Id hate to have more strict rules! They starting passing out flyers at airports when the law comes into effect on Sunday.

Hmmm, a little late since the tourists have to already be there to get the flyers. :D

Nothing short of civil war or natural disaster will stop most tourists from going where they want to go, anyway. They're just wasting their money with this scheme. Which, when you think about it, isn't such a bad thing. :p Most travelers will probably like the thought that someone might come to their aid while they are getting carjacked like a few years back, anyway.

The same thing was said about CCW when it was passed. Look how silly the naysayers look now. The "wild west", "blood will run in the streets", "people will be shooting each other in parking lots", blah, blah, blah. Didn't happen then, won't happen now. It will all settle down after a few years and everyone will forget. Then it'll get passed in every state in the union but NY, MA, and CA.

BTW, what channel are you watching? And is it local or national?

How long before everyone just tunes out these idiot chicken-littles who claim, after every pro-gun law that gets passed, that people are going to just go from normal to psychotic, and have shootouts in the streets over every little thing?!

I mean, in 1987, they called Florida the "Gunshine State" and claimed that the new CCW law was going to result in a "wild west" lawlessness. It didn't come to pass.

In 2004, with the sunset of the AWB, they said that "assault weapons" would flood the streets and be responsible for untold carnage. That, too, did not come to pass.

How long will the media (and anyone else) give these people any credulity?

(Well, the answer to my own question, regarding the media giving anti-gunners credulity, is, "Indefinitely." The media love anti-gun lies.)

Our local paper, The Palm Beach Post, carried this story today.
Ugh.

Well its good I dont have to worry too much. Seeing as how I wasnt a gun ownder in earlier years I didnt think things like this were common.

I remember the Hari Krishna's (a nice bunch of folks BTW) used to pass out leaflets in the airports. Didn't see a huge rush of people joining them however. You've got to expect that one or two people will become hysteric when the Bradyists descend upon them, but more likely than not it will be a 'keep your grubby hands off me!' sort of thing. People nowadays tend to resent religious proselytization in public places and Bradyism would probably look and sound a lot like that sort of thing. (Bradyists strike me as a lot less polite and sane than Hari Krishnas, but people tend to lump such efforts together.)

Andrew, as a gun owner, you start to be more aware of gun-related political issues that simply went beneath your notice when they did not have the potential to affect you.

I can tell you first-hand that in the 12 years I've been a gun owner, I have had occasion to notice stuff that was happening all along, and my awareness of the political and gun worlds around me has grown substantially. My eyes are opened. (I surely didn't realize that the gun control fight was as old as it is) I've even had more than 20 letters related to gun rights published in NY and FL newspapers!

Be active. Join the NRA and any other pro-gun rights organization you can find. Attend local meetings if they have the potential to affect your rights. Attend local gun shows to network about action groups in your area. They seem to always have signup sheets, or membership applications, and in the case of S. Florida, I have seen the SACFLA (Second Amendment Coalition of Florida) represented. They meet for dinners at various locations.

the way this works is they will only be shot if they decide to mug someone.. i am sure a lot of tourists are just stalking people left and right in FL so we should warn them they should not attack anyone or they will be shot..

utter nonsense.

I'd imagine most people resent being delayed at the airport for someone's political views just as much as I resent uber-Christians who tell me I'm going to burn in Hell while I'm trying to study on campus... I wouldn't worry too much.

:: Lights a candle for Mitch :: :(

Sarah Brady is just pi$$ed because her husband got nailed instead of the President in an assasination attempt. What if a compound bow was used instead? I bet she would try to get those to be banned too, samething with any other tool :barf:

I have one thing to say to the Brady Bunch. Don't hate the player, hate the game ;)

That's why I'm a member of the VCDL and the NRA. I'd like for them to talk to me at an airport... Give them a piece of my mind :D.

Andrew, rememeber, turn your enemy's attack against him. The Brady Bunch has declared war on all Florida businesses. You must ensure that the business community knows that the Brady Bunch is against them. Pass along this information to all Chamber of Commerce associations in Florida.

Would help tremendously if you could find friendly businesses to do it for you. Bradys war on business in Florida, Florida should return fire. :)

Don't 'tour' Florida and break into anyone's home or car and threaten them if you don't want to get shot. The state can do without those kinds of 'tourists' if you ask me.

Pass some flyers of your own. :p

"Recent self-defense laws have REDUCED CRIME by 37.66666 %, and this new law promises to improve on that."

"FEAR NOT, You have hundreds of law-abiding, Florida citizens who will come to your aid."

Yep, that should do it! :D :D

man, why cant they do something to discourage tourists from coming to alaska? we're trigger happy gun nuts too!!!

let you in on a secret: alaskans abhor tourism. but you guys that come visit are cool! :D

There was a person at the intersection to the local Wal-Mart handing out a flyer that was calling out the evils of the new law. When she approached my car i had the window down, so she started to hand me a flyer ( i was just going to wally-mart to buy some cheap ammo, and both my HK and my 1911 were sitting in the passenger seat holstered. She quickly withdrew the flyer from my face, called me an "irresponsible militant" and went on to the next car.
Did I say anything? Nope, because like most gun owners, I'm not a jerk and I take the high road.

This new gun law will only be in the papers for so long, since the media has the attention span of a fly. There won't be any decrease in tourism, and if there is for a bit GOOD, i have a bad enough time driving around orlando without all the tourists in their minivans and rented cars. ;)

Exactly.

Nothing about average daily life is going to change in Florida as a result of this new law taking effect. It's the same as in 1987; a bunch of cowardly idiots are acting as fear mongers themselves, are trying to get everyone else to be as fearful as they are.

I think that the NRA and other gun-owner groups should be putting up billboards of their own; perhaps advertising that the new law is designed to protect law-abiding people who have to defend themselves against criminals, and it should say, "So what the hell is wrong with that?!"

It should also advertise that out-of-staters can get a license to carry a gun for protection in Florida just like the residents can. Then those travelers/tourists/visitors who wish to can get the ability to be armed, themselves! That should help allay their fears.

Also, someone should put up a billboard posting the miniscule percentages of law-abiding gun owners with CCW licenses who ever get in trouble with the law. Offset those numbers with the percentages on the overall population. Let's show the targets of HCI's billboards the other, REAL, side of the story.
