So anyway, there i was sitting on the couch, measuring the butt plate of my brand new, never shot 12ga Stoeger Uplander for a recoil pad.
And it slipped from my lap.
The outside right barrel then proceded to bounce off my tile floor....:eek::mad:
I examined the damage and saw that the barrel was dented slightly, but that the dent didn't seem to be more than a surface thing. I was able to remove and replace the screw in choke with no trouble.
I am hoping i didnt do something really bad to it...
What do you think? Safe to shoot? I plan to take it to a smith tomorrow. The ding in circled in the attached photos. the chokes are set and tight.
Bloody heck!!

Seeing how poorly those chokes fit into the barrel was enough for me to cross that off my list.

It does seem odd that one of the chokes appears to be recessed on one part of the barrel and extends past the muzzle on a different part.

Is that what is happening, OP?

If yuo can get the choke out easily, it would appear the ding didn't cause issues there. I would, however, check those tubes. If they are off, the patterns could be all over the place

Your Stoeger barrel:

Go ahead and shoot it if the chokes look okay. After all, it is a shotgun not a rifle and as such tolerences are different. Who knows, it might be more acccurate! My uncle used to have a (non-screw in choke) barrel on his shotgun (.12 GA) that had a pretty good dent on the end of his barrel from dropping it on a steel truck bed. It still shot very good patterns, so who knows. Still, I know that has to really tick you off to damage your gun.

Just like a new car no one likes the first dent on their shotgun. I suspect it will be none for the wear, meaning it should be just fine.

I'm sure you can find a Smitty to get that dent taken care of.

Good luck and I know how you feel.

Update

I took my injured barrells to the gunsmith, who declared it okay. The choke had not been damaged at all and was in the round. Just a ding.
Whew!!
Thanks for all the comments! :D
Look out little clay birds! I'm-a comin'!!
