Dam* Smith and Wesson-But stop the name calling OK?

I respect the honored firm of Smith and Wesson for the good that they have done in the past. The present company, owned by a foreign parent, is so far removed from that proud tradition, it isn't even the same company. Calling them names, does nothing to further any cause. I will not buy their new products, but continue to purchase any used S&W products that I find. For over a century, Smith and Wesson has faithfully served in the hands of law enforcement and military alike. Just as the sins of the father should not be visited on the son, the sins of the son should also be removed from the father. God bless Smith and Wesson for what they were, and God damn the present foreign interests that they are now.

Just my .$001 worth.

So we have Pre ban AR15's and Post Ban AR15's. Now we have Pre Sellout Smiths and Post Sellout Smiths.

Seems to me that Pre Sellout Smiths may be worth money in the future?

I agree.

Any name-calling should be directed toward Ed Shultz, his masters at Tomkins PLC, and our socialist enemies in the governments.

I am participating in the economic boycott against S&W. I will continue to buy used S&W pistols and revolvers.

Besides, buying used allows one to 'take more guns off the street.'

K80Geoff,
Sadly yes, on both counts. We also have pre JFK Democrats and what is now in office, and running for office.

As far as the monetary value is concerned, none of mine are for sale now, or will be in the future. I will melt them down before I sell them at a profit.

I hope S&w doesn't get any proceeds from second hand sales. There will be a lot of good(used)priced S&W if people decide to get rid of their's. I am not a big fan of Smith, but I know they put out a pretty good product. If Sig or HK "bowed" down I don't think most of us here would be as quick to judge them. So don't buy new Smith's and continue to support the others.

As someone who has posted critical comments about S&W here and elsewhere on the Web, and who plans never again to buy a new S&W product, let me say right now that if SIG or HK or anyone else had signed the incredible agreement S&W accepted, I would have been just as quick to criticize and boycott them. It's not about the company, it's about what the company has done. Ed Schultz has damaged RKBA and the entire American gun industry. That shouldn't be forgiven.

S&W has committed financial suicide with this agreement. A fate that they richly deserve.

I joined the boycott of Smith & Wesson products after a few days of studying their agreement with the Klintonistas.

I agree that the purchase of used S&W products will not benefit the company, and as a collector of S&W revolvers I will continue to do so.

HOW ABOUT HAVING YOUR LOCAL DEALER ORDER ONLY FROM - RSR WHOLESALE GUNS. WHY?
Because RSR has agreed to boycott S&W products, meaning they will no longer be ordering additional inventory from S&W. Currently, RSR WHOLESALE has a very LARGE INVENTORY OF S&Ws on hand. I'm not so sure that RSR will be able to return them to S&W.
Having your local dealer order a S&W from RSR Wholesale (located in FL or NV) would be supporting a distributor that is supporting the boycott. Since RSR will not be re-stocking from S&W it would seem that S&W would not benefit from the sale from RSR current inventory. Don't we need to support RSR because of their strong pro-gun statement in boycotting S&W?

DOES ANY ONE ELSE FOLLOW MY REASONING?

AM I MAKING INCORRECT ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT RSR CURRENT INVENTORY OF S&Ws?

MAYBE WE SHOULD INQUIRE OF RSR ABOUT THE STATUS OF THEIR CURRENT S&W INVENTORY, IF THEY ARE RETURNING THEM TO S&W, etc., etc.

I did e-mail other S&W distributors, Camfour, Inc., Sport South, Inc., and Lew Horton to advise them they should consider boycotting S&W. I implied that my dealer would be ordering through another distributor that is boycotting S&W, referencing RSR actions on this matter.

Anyone wishing to e-mail S&W's distributor's may find them linked to S&W's page. Go to:
http://www.smith-wesson.com/misc/links.html

Just click your way to the distributors home page and look for their e-mail link. Choose the e-mail to their marketing deparment if listed or to the ceo. Ask them to consider boycotting S&W.

The fault is not with S&W, but with their British masters who probably have no idea as to what they have done.
I won't be buying any new Smiths, but I'm not going to pass up any good used ones either. S&W still makes the best revolver in the world (JMHO) and I'm not going to sell any that I already own.
I hope Tomkins does sell S&W and the new owners return it to its past glory.

Not saying one way or another is right, but let me point out this FACT: If you buy a USED S&W, then you are NOT actively participating in an economic boycott, because the reality is that's one more purchaser out there who's going to now "have to" buy a new Smith (remember, their guns are not different YET), or that's one more person who'll buy another used Smith, which in turn causes one less used Smith, which ultimately in turn results in one extra sale of a NEW Smith gun - this is true because the the masses who just WANT a S&W revolver for whatever reason (their dad had one) don't give 2 craps about boycotts.

e-mail has been sent to the following S&W distributors:

Camour, Inc.
Sports South, Inc.

Content as follows:

As a Smith & Wesson revolver collector, I am deeply troubled by Smith & Wesson's agreement with our Commander & Chief Pervert. I AM BOYCOTTING S&W products and, under my direction, my dealer will not be ordering any firearms from S&W distributors that are re-stocking their S&W inventories. Personnally, I will see that my dealer only orders my firearms from a dealer that honors the boycott S&W boycott.

With this in mind, I am hopeful that you will consider BOYCOTTING S&W products.

In a closing thought, I wish the 4 major distributors could collectively buy S&W from Tompkins PLC. Maybe after S&W goes into Chapter 13 you can pick-up their ASSets at a bargain.

Best of luck to you and your ASSociates.

__________

Note: a similar e-mail was sent to Lew Horton Distributing Co., which takes into account that I have a number of their limited edition S&W revolvers in my collection.
__________

I also e-mail Mike Saporito at RSR Group to thank him for his support in boycotting S&W. I also asked him about his existing inventory and the possibility that we could still have our dealers order from him. Since he will not be re-stocking from S&W any subsequent purchase from his existing inventory would not benefit S&W. I believe we do want to support RSR for their strong stand on the S&W boycott. If other distributors come out for the S&W boycott they would also be considered.

____

IMPORTANT: These distributors also carry firearms from other manufacturers. It is important for them to maintain a "good faith" relationship with their dealers and us, the retail customer. My dealer will order from any distributor based on my instructions. Any distributor that re-stocks their S&W inventory will not receive my order via my dealer.

Futo Inu,
I'm not sure I follow the reasoning that the purchase of a used S&W would in any way benefit S&W as far as sale of new products go. I will consider it though as far as any purchases I make. If the seller says they want to replace an unfired Model 27 with a current mfg S&W, I would in all likelyhood pass on it. If however they said they wanted to get a Browning or a Glock, then I would probably go for it. Current Smith products have limited appeal to me, but the ones that do are in the upper price range. They can kiss my purchase of a Schofield, a Model 41 and a couple of others goodbye.

My request to stop the name calling stems from the feeling of need that I get, even after their dismal treatment of gun owners, to defend the name of what has traditionaly been a great company. I doubt if I am unique in my passion for Smith and Wesson products, and get the feeling that so much name calling will only cause those that see the decision as a reasonable step, to ignore the facts. Current Smith and Wesson management has abandoned the foundation our Country was built on. Not only have they spit in the face of gun owners, they have aided a circumvention of due process by allowing one branch of government to side-step the system of checks and balances. It is the latter that I fear the most. This will just add to the increase of a centralized body, growing larger and larger, and virtually unchecked, growing in place of the current system.

Again, just my small bit of change, but I have repeatedly shown, and been shown, that name calling has exactly the opposit of the desired effect. Sorry to be preachy, this just bothers me to the max, as I'm pretty sure it does others less outspoken than myself.

As I posted on another board, I am not going to boycott S&W--it is a business' job to remain solvent, not change the government. (Sad when that means buckling in to extortion, but were are the police to protect them?

It is a citizen's job to change the government: we have a job to do.

It is a dealer's right not to work under onerous conditions.
