Daly DDA discontinued?

According to the Charles Daly web site, as of last Friday they've discontinued their DDA product line. They refer customers to SOG and CDNN for remaining stock. I was thinking about buying a DDA Compact, so now I have questions.

Is the compact model available from CDNN (or elsewhere) in any color other than fuscia, for about the same price?

Is fuscia really that garish in person? Should I even worry about it?

How much bigger is the not-so-compact model?

Are there any decent alternatives at the same price level?

Any speculation as to what would cause them to discontinue it? Quality issues, spat with OEM, lack of demand, or what? It makes me a little concerned when a distributor suddenly drops a product line.

The Israeli manufacturer's web site lists no importer for the USA, by the way.

Thanks!

Southern Ohio Guns has the full size for $275.00...I bought one when they were $299.00 and felt it was a good deal at that price...the full size I believe is only about a half inch longer in length...and it comes with a mag extender...other than that they are the same...for 275 you could get one and even if it needs work at some point in the future your not out very much money...BTW it shoots VERY tight groups...I traded mine away for a Star .45 that my buddy had...he wanted the DDA and I wanted his Star...now everybodys happy!
Tony.

How much longer is the grip for full size? Also, how does it compare to the Taurus PT-145 in size, weight, trigger pull, reliability, etc?

I found it on SOG's web site, but their ordering information gave me the impression that I'd have to convince a FFL to order from them (in his own name), then resell it to me. The FFL I had in mind doesn't work that way; he wants customers to arrange payment themselves, and then he just handles receiving and the federal paperwork. Am I over-analyzing this? Would SOG accept payment from me and transferral through the FFL?

As for lack of interest... The first time I ever took notice of any DDA advertisements, it was for that pink model in CDNN's catalog. I don't recall seeing any of them in stores. It's hard to sell what the customer doesn't see.

I'm not even sure if I want a polymer .45 right now. Some other pistols are starting to look good, too. Oh well.

The only thing I could think of is that Charles Daly wants to stay true to 1911 handguns...
Instead of importing a rebadged EAA Witness, I think they are going to be doing more of a push for the compact and subcompact models of the 1911s.
From the Daly website:
"Our standard warranty and Lifetime Repair Policy will remain in effect on all of these models. Get one now before they're all gone! "

I don't think you would be orphaned if you got one. I was thinking about getting one in OD Green... although that yellow one looks snazzy. The accuracy is more than acceptable for a CCW gun, and the trigger while heavy and not that great is more than acceptable for this type of gun. The trigger is certainly better than a Taurus PT 145 if your making compairisons. The only think I didn't like about the DDA that I have fired, is the rear sight which looks like its is molded of a platic equivilant of partical board. Not only that, but it was mounted from the factory, rather crooked. This didn't really effect the way it shot, but it did give the pistol a rather crappy, shoddy quality control impresson. This is funny because the rest of the pistol is well made and well finished without tool marks or anything else questionable. Just that rear sight.
Think a brand new Ford Taurus SHO from the dealership with a Geo Metro steering wheel. Your thinking "WTF? Is this a joke?"

At 275 for a new DDA - If your looking for a compact double action .40 or .45 - That is a screaming deal. And you can even pick the color. :D

I'm surprised DeWalt hasn't come down on Charles Daly for the yellow one :p

In the April 15 Shotgun News Cdnn has em listed as Israeli Bul going for 279.00. Kieslers Wholesale has em listed as Charles Daly going for 279.00. Do you really want a pink pistol? I thought not.:D

I called KBI this morning because I have a DDA I bought from a friend so it isn't under warranty. They said they will have some parts for people like me to buy. So I asked about new recoil springs for my fullsize DDA, they didn't have any. So guess I'm going to check into polymer witness springs and see if they will work. I hope I don't wind up with another orphan. HS arms was like that then springfield started importing the XD. I thought my HS 2000 was going to be without a parts supplier for a while there. Mark

Python,
I have "Southern Ohio Guns" on my favorite page but I could'nt post the URL here...just do a search and you'll find it...great place for deals on firearms!
Tony.

Picked up the latest shotgun news. Yup, I buy it for the advertisements, and this time it's mostly articles. Sigh.

CDNN does indeed have compact, full size, and pink listed in their SGN ad. The non-pinks don't seem to be chromed. Didn't see an ad for Kiesler's Wholesale. Anyone have a URL or SGN page number for them?

I know some of you have shot the compact before... What is its distance from bottom of trigger guard to base of grip? I'm trying to figure out whether my fingers would fit on it.

I just ordered a Charles Daly DDA Compact from CDNN. Most of the dealers around here seemed to charge $40-45 for the transfer. The ones who were cheaper ($25) didn't have a current FFL on file with CDNN, so I would end up having to wait longer. I paid $279 plus another $24 for an extra magazine. In any case, it looks like a good deal for a quality polymer .45. I have missed my Taurus PT-145 since I sold it.
