DA/SA .22 for training?

There's a gun show in town this weekend and I'd been planning on picking up a .22 auto for practice or maybe a revolver for DA training. I got to wondering, though, if there was a DA/SA .22 so I could cheaply practice the transition (I use a 229 and may pick up an HK compact or Sig 245). I know about the Walther PPK but can't pony up that much. Any other suggestions?

By the way, I'm talking about something mid-size or larger. I'm aware of the Beretta 21 and Taurus PT-22. Those are too small for real training.

Any comments on or experiences with the CZ-75 Kadet?

What you need is the Beretta 87.

Not the new target model (which is single action only), but the regular 87.

I got one two years ago, and it made me a MUCH better shooter. Totally reliable after break-in, and plenty accurate for training. Find a range that rents and shoot high velocity ammo, and you'll be hooked.

I have a Bersa and it's a great little pistol for the money (under $200).

Mine is the older, 223DA, model but they still make the same gun under their "Thunder" marque.

Good luck.

For realistic training (that duplicates action AND weight AND feel of the real thing) with .22lr you have several choices:
- Revolvers, .22 K frames, .22 J frames (steel and alloy)
- Autos, .22 conversion kits for CZ-75/85, and .22 conversion kits for Witness.

I just got the conversion for my CZ-85. In my hands with CCI Stingers it's about as accurate as 9mm. With lower powered ammo it's terribly unreliable, but with CCI it's acceptable (4-5 jamms for 50 rounds, and those are stowepipes, easily cleared). I am waiting to see if the spring will take a set, or I'll have to clip some coils. Also the situation may improve as the rails wear in. So far I only put 150 rounds through it. Didn't buy it because of the action, I gave up on DA/SA a while ago. I bought the conversion to practice first shot from the draw, and point shooting, and I am happy with the purchase.
