I thought we should start a thread commemorating the day so many Americans and Allies joined together to uproot tyranny from the Western world.

So this is firearms-related, here is a photo of my 1944 Springfield Armory M1 Garand (a service grade from the CMP).

At the same time, it is so sad to see this news story on the anniversary of D-Day.

It seems our government is fully intent on stripping away the freedoms so many good men and women sacrificed their youth and their lives for.

Any time someone writes "So this is firearms-related..." it's a clue that it's not. Commemorating D-Day, and those who served in WWII, is a worthy and important thing, but it's off-topic for us.

The story you linked to might be a topic for L&CR, if you can give us a summary and some starting points for discussing its civil rights implications.
