does anyone have one of these? I saw the advertisement on Empire's website, it looks like a fun pistol and the price is certainly right. Ammo looks available and cheap (7.62x25 Tokarev).
Any comments about aesthetics, shootability, reliability, collectability and any other ality's would be greatly appreciated.

People familiar with CZ-52s either love them or hate them.

They shoot a fairly powerful round, and have a reputation for durability. That reputation, according to the experts on the Curio & Relics list, may be somewhat misplaced -- as the guns have never been used in combat or shot much, but had been upgraded and rearsenaled widely.

For the money, you probably can't go wrong. But it'll probably be the luck of th draw: some are accurate, some shoot patterns, not groups.

Go to WWW.MAKAROV.COM for more info. Here's the link, already set for the CZ-52. Everything you wanted to know about the CZ-52 and then some.

There are some technical "issues" with the gun, including a decocker that can cause an accidental discharge. Read the site's info.

I had one for a while. It does shoot a very fast round. Huge fireball. They have a unique roller locking mechanism similar to the HK P9s - I sold mine though. It would lock up on my every once in a while. It was reasonably accurate though, but the sights and grip are horrible. I only paid $100 for it and was able to sell it for what I paid for it. For a little more money you can get a Makarov -

P.S. 9mm barrels are available for the CZ-52 some have already had the conversion done to them. This would probably make them less reliable since the 7.62x25 is a bottleneck cartridge and feeds pretty well.

If you are like me and just like to try different handguns without going into deep debt then the CZ52 is a nice pistol to add to your collection. I bought two of them with the idea of converting one to 9mm but decided against it and traded in one of my Maks towards a CZ75. Don't dry fire them (even with snap caps) since the firing pin has a tendancy to break. Be careful of the ammo that you use in it. I bought some East European with hard primers and have to stagger the rounds with S&B ammo (which has always been reliable). Accuracy is at best fair but they do make a lot of noise.

I like my CZ52, although I only shoot it maybe once a year. Terrible ergonomics, sharp edges. What others said about accuracy is true, some shoot well, others shoot "patterns" LOL. Ammo IS cheap, beware of the hard primered SMG ammo. The locking action is strong and can handle the 20% more powerful Czech ammo if you can find it. SOF did a test of that ammo, and found little to no difference in performance however. If you can find combloc steel core-now that would make the gun a little more useful! If you buy one get instructions on how to disassemble. You will need to clean it after firing most Tok ammo available. Have fun!

I fired mine Sunday. Fair accuracy, but mainly the ergonomics are too bad to let me shoot well. There is a tendency to point/shoot very low.

I put the Hogue wood grips on mine, and it helped a lot with the sharp edges on the front and backstraps. I ran surplus ball ammo in mine for a while, then bought several hundred pieces of Starline 7.62x25 brass, and have been pushing Sierra 86gr RNSP pills over 1600 fps on top of a goodly amount of Accurate Arms No.5. But if you find one of these pistols, do yourself a favor and look for a "Z" on the triggerguard. If it's not there, clear the chamber and barrel, and put a No.2 pencil eraser first into the barrel until it seats against the breech. Cock the hammer, and, holding the muzzle upright, try the safety's decocker function (sweeping it up). If the pencil jumps out of the bore when the hammer falls during decocking, you have reason to pass up on the gun, or send it back to the importer, Century Arms International had a fix for them a while ago...

Otherwise, I love my CZ-52, it's stout, accurate (but I handload...), and can really knock over a steel plate at 50 yards like nobody's business!

I recently purchased my CZ52 from century for 149.00 and it came with a holster and 2 mags. It has the original gray parkerizing and looks to have been unissued. I has since become my favorite handgun and is very accurate at 35 yards which is the normal range at which I shoot. The Makarov is very nice, however, the CZ52 is just plain fun! I believe supplies of these are dwindling and they may be hard to find as well as pricey in the near future. I believe these are one of the better bargains to be had these days.

I own a CZ-52 and it really is a fun gun. Agreed--- huge fireball!!! Great fast round, and a somewhat unique gun to add to your collection. I paid 100 bucks with a holster and 2 mags a couple of years ago.

Mine has never misfired or had a hangup of any kind. Mind you, I only shoot it a couple of times a year, but I enjoy every session.
