CZ97?

While out looking at a CZ75B today I saw something I hadn't noticed before in the case next to it. Had the salesman hand it to me and found out it was a CZ97 in .45ACP. Seems to be as well built and rugged as the CZ75 with the same controls. Has a 10 round magazine which makes the grip a good size to fit my hand. Noticed something I could only describe as some sort of barrel bushing that screws into the end of the slide. Don't know why that's there as the 75 doesn't have any such thing.

Anyway, what I was wondering is if anyone here has one of these and can tell me something about it. The shop I went to has a new one for $459 and two used ones for $399 each. Good deals? Accuracy OK? Do these come with one magazine or two?

Thanks for any help.

Sound like a fair deal to me. Don't have one but I've heard mentioned that the gun is above average to very accurate, depending on the source.

I have one and I think it is an oustanding pistol. reliable and very accurate out of the box. The only drawback is that it may be too large for some people's hands,
Since you have handled a CZ97 and find that it fits, I would recommend that you get one. The prices sound good. A CZz97 comes from the factory in a plastic case which contains some tools and a spare magazine. Spare magazines are available.

Hard Ball,

Thanks. That was exactly the type of info I was looking for.

No problem with the grip being a bit big. The USP .45 fits me great so the CZ should be no problem. :)

Glad to hear that magazines are still available. I know they are "clinton version" 10 round capacity units but for something that is not too common it has to be something to take into consideration.

I'll have to look into the pistol coming with two magazines. The fellow behind the counter said only one came with the pistol.

Those are good prices. I paid a bit more about a month ago. I'm sure it depends on where you are. I had to special order mine as the store doesn't normally stock them.

I am very impressed with the fit and finish. Accuracy is excellent for an out of the box pistol. For my first couple of targets (B3's), I was testing different ammo with a simple pistol rest to see which ammo it liked the best. It liked everything. Each target was 10 shots and 9 of 10 were in the 10 ring with 1 in the 9 ring. Not bad at all.

Be sure you get the spare mag, you will have paid for it.

Mal,

Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear you have enjoyed your CZ. I was thinking it looked like something good but I always try to get a couple of other opinions before making an "impulse" purchase.

Joe, I second or third the motion for you to buy the CZ 97. I have found mine to be very accurate, provided I do my part. The design of the barrel bushing is an added feature, no special tools are needed to remove or replace the bushing. The price you mentioned is reasonable too. In my neck of the woods, southern Ca., I have priced the CZ 97 at $499 NIB. Let us know if you do decide to buy the "Seizy." Oh, and if you pass on the '97 I can vouch for the '75 too. :D

Gregg,
I'm from SoCal too. Where can you find a CZ97? I've been looking a little bit, but no luck so far...

Joe:
As far as I know CZ has only made the CZ97 magazines in 10 roung capacity. You should get one spare magazine with a new pistol.

There is some onteresting data/information on the CZ97 at the CZ USA web site you might like to read.

I went back to the shop I saw the '97 at today after work. I took my time and looked over the used ($399) versions they had. One was still unfired but had quite a bit of play at the muzzle while in battery and the other had obviously been shot quite a bit and not cleaned at all. The counter person stated that they plan on stocking these pistols for the foreseeable future so I decided to pass at this time. I might find a good used one later on but if not at least I know I'll have the option of getting a new one for not much more.

I did, however, pick up the CZ75B. :) Figured now was as good a time as ever since the price was right, it came with one 10 round mag and one hi-cap, and the shop also had a set of Pachmayr grips (since I've been told Pachmayr went out of business I figure I better get these while I can) to fit it.

Couldn't find any kind of reference to replacement grips on the CZ97. I'm hoping somebody will start making some good rubber grip panels for these shortly.

Gregg,

Thanks for the endorsement. These CZs seem to have quite a following. They appear to be a quality firearm despite being one of the best deals in the counter. This is something that usually doesn't go together. :) I'm looking forward to trying out the 75 and will continue to look forward to picking up a 97.

Hard Ball,

Thanks. I spent a bit of time at CZ's web site last night reading up on the subject.

They only have 10 rounders, but may make higher cap mags for LE, according to the Czechs I e-mailed last year. The mags are Mec-Gar, so try them for replacements/extras.

Hydejam,

I saw the CZ 97 at XCaliber Guns in Westminster, (714)890-9142. He had it priced at $499 the last time I was there, about a month ago. The Stockade, also in Westminster (714)894-0584, is an authorised CZ dealer according to CZ-USA, I called them last week about ordering the soft rubber stocks for my '75. I have only seen CZ 75s in stock here. (They have a 25th Anniversary CZ 75 in the case if you're interested! :D )If you have never been to either of these shops, they are very close to each other, plan on visiting both on the same day.

Joe,

Enjoy your new Seizy! The '75 is my favorite handgun at the moment. It fits my large hand very well, right down to the cutout above the trigger to rest one's finger. I will be picking up the Sig P226 b-day present from my wife tomorrow, so the '75 will have some real competition. ;) -Gregg

Thanks Gregg,

Just so happens I work in Santa Ana and I know of those two places. I don't know why I didn't think to check with them for a CZ in the first place. I guess B&B has been getting most of my attention lately...
