CZ75 Single Action - Very Nice!

Earlier this year I purchased a new CZ75B "military" for $329. I just bought one of the new SA single action versions for $379, and there are some interesting differences. The thumb safety is ambidextrous and has been re-designed. It is now more positive, less likely to accidently come off, and it has been redesigned to be more like a 1911 safety, flatter and more positive when thumbing off. The beavertail has been reshaped, and allows a higher and more comfortable grip. A new hammer allows for the upswept beavertaiil. It is surprising how much better the grip feels. The slide also does not narrow at the final inch or so at the muzzle end, it now has some extra mass.

I've been thinking about these since I saw them on CZ's site. It's probably my next purchase. How do you like that straight trigger? How's it feel compared to other SA guns (like a 1911)?

Shmackey - I like the trigger better than the single action on the original. If you pull the trigger very slowly, you can feel some creep, but if you pull the trigger normally, it is pretty good. I am guessing this is a 4 lb trigger. A trigger job should cure the creep. Compared to a 1911? Nothing can quite match a well tuned 1911 trigger. I like the new grip of the CZ as well as a Browning High Power, which is the best IMO. I like the CZ for these reasons: I chose to standardize on 9mm (Kahr for carry), hi caps are available, the gun is "smooth" no sharp edges, it has a good corrosion resistant coating, reasonably priced, good grip shape, fast trigger reset. It is also available in .40 S&W. I love the CZ, but can say only superlative things about the BHP or a 1911. I prefer cocked & locked carry. The Kahr is so conceable, it is my always gun, and it has the best double action trigger of any gun I have owned, so I accept the dao, but prefer cocked & locked.

Thanks for the review. I've been trying to decide between a CZ-85B and the SA CZ-75 (I'm a lefty). Your review, particularly about the new safety and the nice trigger, have convinced me to go with the SA. I was tempted by the option to have DA/Sa or SA cocked and locked with the 85, but as a 1911 shooter, those DA/SA guns get me everytime with that DA shot diving low. Sbhould just stick with what I know and stay SA C&L. Later.
