CZ75 Mag Question

I shoot my new CZ75 Mil for the first time and loved its accurracy. What I did not like was the fact that the mags do not drop free, I have to virtually pull them out.

Can I do something to make them drop free? If so, what? I need detailed instructions since tinkering with my guns is not something I do everyday.

Thanks.

The CZ-75 has what CZ calls a "magazine brake" installed in the rear of the magazine well. You can take it out to make sure mags drop free, but that also allows more access to allow dirt and gunk to get into the internals. To take it out, you need to depress the mainspring plunger (the round button on the back/bottom of the grip), then push out the cross-pin through the frame. This frees the plunger enough that you can take out the mag brake. You'll need to take off the grip panels to take the pin out, and to get a good look at how it goes together again.

You don't want to remove the mag break premanently. Instead there are two approaches to making the pistol drop-free. One is to order a drop-free mag break from CZ-USA (~ $3.00 IIRC) and the other is to modify (i.e. bend) the existing mag brake to be drop free. If you choose to modify the brake. do it carefully...they're can be broken without too much effort.

Mike, the armorer at CZ-USA, has said in the past that the mag break should remain in the gun, as it keeps the rear of the feed lips from getting damaged upon insertion.

With regard to the drop free mag brakes/retention springs... those are standard equipment on the CZ-85/85 combat and they're interchangeable with the CZ-75s. Putting them in doesn't void your warranty. You can order directly from CZ, but they'll only accept a check, and it'll take about three weeks.

The last couple I ordered (for myself and a friend) were $6.50 (each, I think), plus shipping.

If you're careful, you don't HAVE to replace the existing mag brake. You can, using needle nose pliers, reshape the loop on the top to take up a bit more slack, and it will allow the mags to drop free.

The only problem is that you must do it carefully, as the metal is very brittle. (He says knowingly; I've done it twice, once successfuly, and once not so successfully.)

Try it, and if you break it, send off for the replacement part.

CZ takes credit card orders

At least they did for me. That was a couple of months ago. Walt, how long ago did you order?

Re: CZ-USA taking credit cards.

It was early last year.

I'm glad to hear they now take credit cards. That'll make me more inclined to order parts from them.
