CZ52 questions

Hi guys,

I just picked one up at a show. I've searched the forum and read most of the posts but still have a few questions.

1) Is the Czech subgun ammo in the laquered grey/green case on 8rnd stripper clips corrosive? Is the bullet steel cored? I know it has hard primers, but has anyone actually shot this and can comment on ignition reliability.

2) I've read varying reports on the dots on the slide: accuracy, condition at time of being arsenaled. Does anyone know for sure? And which is better, more dots or less?

3) My pistol came in a blue/black finish with a z stamp on the trigger guard which probably means it has been arsenal refinished with the saftey/decocker conversion. However, I can't find the vos marking that should be on arsenal refinished pistols. Does anyone know where it should be located? Also, does anyone have or know where to find any original finish light gray parkerized pistols?

4) What's the best way to get the grip clip off without damaging the grip or the clip?

Thanks.

you can safely assume that ALL ex-military surplus is corrosive, but pistol is easy to clean, just put that to bathtub fauset for hot water,

don't know, there's conflicting opinion, BTW, mine has one dot,

I use magazine bottom part,

That subgun ammo, that comes on 8-rnd stripper clips, is nasty stuff. I bought a couple of hundred rounds of that right after buying my CZ-52. I experienced lots of hangfires, half second max, and chunks of burning powder flying downrange.

The "dots" are made from hardness testing and nothing else. The accuracy stuff is nonsense.

I pull the clip off by prying, with a fired case rim, directly rearward.

My pistol is the original grey color. I don't see a 'z' on the trigger guard. There are 'z's that preceed the serial number on the frame and slide.

I've heard two theories on the dots that make sense.

1. It's hardness testing that was done each time the gun was rearsenaled.

2. It's simply a way of keeping track of how many times the gun has been rearsenaled.

I've also heard the accuracy theory, but have never heard of anyone who has any evidence to support the theory.

A few interesting points on these guns.

1. The firing pins are cast steel. They will not tolerate dry-firing AT ALL. They will last indefinitely if not dry-fired.

2. The gun is equipped with a decocking function. Simply press the safety lever past the safety position and it will decock the pistol.

3. They were one of the first pistols with a firing pin safety. They can safely be carried with a chambered round.

4. The guns will accept 9mm barrels.

Have fun with your new CZ!
