CZ Sights and Old vs New Slides

After months of waffling, painting, and being thrifty, I think I am going to pull the trigger (pun intended) on some adjustable LPA fiber optic sights for my CZ P01. I love the feel of this gun but I have a hard time picking up the sights. Not sure if its my eyes on the compact radius or the sights. Anyone have experiences with these sights or recommendations?

Does anyone know the difference between "old" and "new" CZ slides. I am looking at these LPA sights and they say they are for the "new" CZ 75 style. My CZ was bought new about a year ago.

"New" CZ75 LPA Fiber Optics

In contrast they do have some similar adjustables for old style CZs.

"Old" CZ75 LPA Sights

Thanks

I think there are two different issues being presented in the sights offered.

The OLDER model CZs (the pre-B 75 and 85) had a different dovetail than the current models.) I think that's the OLD (BRNO-designated) models and NEW (75B/85B) models they're addressing.

I'd give serious thought to getting the newer style sight, with the fiber optic inserts. The older style are serviceable, but nothing outstanding. (That is the same sight that came with the 85 Combat and Kadet Kit.)

I've found too, after years of shooting, that adjustable sights are seldom adjusted... It seems good, but it's probably money wasted for most folks.

Note. While I think all of the dovetails on the 75B-based models are the same, there are some minor differences. The PCR has a part of the rib on the top of the slide in front of the dovetail cut away to allow it's lower NOVAK-style sight to be used. That sight won't work with other CZs, unless the rib is also removed in the area that would be under the sight.

When the older style LPA adjustable sight is mounted on the 85 Combat, the rib behind the dovetail is cut away to allow that sight to go lower. That is the same sight that comes on the older Kadet Kits, too. (I'm not sure which sight is used on the newer Kadet Kit II model.) Others have fit that older LPA-style sight to the standard 75B without problems -- but you may not be able to always crank it down as far.)

Unless you like fiddling with various bullet weights/POI settings, I'd just give David at Cajun Gun Works a call. He can send a fixed sight set that will shoot to POI for your typical load and have less of a chance snagging on clothing.

And yes I have a P01.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I am still trying to figure out which ammo I like. And I do see a consistent offset that I would like to adjust out. With that said, my primary interest is getting something that looks better than these P01 stock sights. I can see my Kimber 1911 Tactical sights (big black squares) and whatever is on my Buckmark. Both of these are a longer sight radius so I am thinking its either the sights or its the sight radius.

You mentioned offset.

You move the rear sight in the direction you want the point of impact moved to.

You can contact CZ and tell them your problem and which sight you're using, and they'll send you another sight (higher or lower) to fix the "offset."

Tell them the distance you're shooting from, and how much OFF the point of impact might be.

But, if you just don't like the looks of the P-01 sight, check out the CZ Custom Shop, or Cajun Gun Works, for some alternatives.

Just so you know the front sight on those sight sets is really tall (.300"). I had a plain black rear and the fiber optic front. The sight picture was ok but the sights looked goofy to me. I would suggest fixed sights from CZ custom or Cajon gunworks.

Thanks for the recommendations. What would you say to moving to a fixed sight combo of a CZ competition back and a CZ fiber optic front?

The P01 is my only compact which could get some conceal carry. But I use it mostly at the range as I don't have the CC yet.

I see two "good" options for rear sights. One is "tactical". The other is "competition". They look the similar with the Tactical looking like a bigger"notch. I love my big notch tactical sights on my Kimber 1911. Given my issue locking in on the present factory sights, any thoughts on which one I should pursue.

Rear Competition

Rear Tactical

And for the front fiber optic, they have 1.0 and 1.5mm front sights. I am thinking the larger 1.5mm makes the most sense with the Tactical. Andt maybe the 1.0mm goes with Competition?

FO 1.0mm Front

FO 1.5mm Front

Given my experience shooting my Kimber well with big notch tacticals, I am leaning toward the fixed rear tactical with a 1.5mm FO. But I wonder if I might get even better performance on the Competition notch and a 1.0mm FO. Are you giving up accuracy for quick acquisition?

On the cz custom rear sights I would go with the tactical. I have the competition rear and the corners were very sharp. I took a file and some cold blue to it now it's fine. Also those front sights come in two sight widths. The ones you posted are the wider blade.

Talked to David at Cajun Gun Works. I am going with a fixed set from them with a FO front and a black notch back. I will report back.

Thought I would close the loop on this. Back in July I contacted Cajun Gun Works and tried their E-Z/D-9/40 sights. The site picture was very clear. However, I did not like how big the rear sight was on the compact slide. It did not feel like a good ergonomic fit for a compact that could go conceal carry. And the website did say these are not recommended for conceal carry. I was actually more put off by the how the sights got in the way of my slide rack as opposed to how they would carry. So I sent my slide back to CGW to swap for the Meprolight ML17775s. After running 100 round through the gun last night, I am ecstatic. My buddy kept commenting on the big smile on my face. The Meprolights look great to me.

The CGW E-Z/D-9/40 were actually easier on my eyes to pick up than the Meprolights, but the front FO was very thin. This allows a lot of light around it but also gives a bit of play in the sight picture, at least to my eyes. In contrast the Meprolights are a big or fat sight, much more like my tactical Kimber 1911 sights. These seem to work well for me and when I get my s**t together, my groups with the Meprolights are as good as I have shot that gun. At 21 feet I am a little low (~1 inch) but tight and at 30 feet I am a little more scattered but POI is right on. As a side note the Winchester 115gr FMJ Target (white box) shot a lot better than the cheap Walmart Tul Ammo steel case stuff.

David at Cajun Gun Works is a wealth of knowledge and a true gentleman to do business with. I would recommend CGW to anyone needing help with a CZ pistol.
