CZ rifles???

Anyone have anything good or bad to say about CZ rifles or Whitworth rifles (which are CZ actions with british barrels).

I'm looking at buying a CZ550 Magnum rifle in 375 H&H soon and info/feedback on this rifle/make would be most appreciated. I am looking at this brand because i get controlled round feeding (mauser action) and magnum caliber for under $600 retail.

Thanks,

Dr.Rob

And NO it ain't gonna be no damn scout rifle ;)

Greetings, sir. I love BRNO and CZ rifles.
I own a CZ 527 in .223 Remington as well as BRNO in .30-06 and .375 H&H. All of them shoot very well indeed with loads they like and I've never had any problems whatsover with feeding or extraction and expect none considering that they are slightly modified Mauser 98s! The little 527 groups better with factory Winchester 50 gr BallisticSilvertips than any handload I've come up with, ie 3 shots into 3/8" at 100 yards from this light-bbl'ed little rifle. My '06 will easily do 3/4" for 3 at the same distance as will the .375H&H. I'm not exactly sure how BRNO and CZ are related, but one's about the same as the other with the BRNO being older.........I think. I suspect that you'd like a CZ rifle. Best.

Czechs are very good in making guns.
In many cases the design and quality of
their guns are superb but underrated.
CZ-75 is a bright example. Rifles are in
the same category - very well made, rugged,
accurate,... excellent value, to be short.

I have a CZ 550 varmint and love it. If you get the .375H+H make sure the stock is cross bolted. CZ had trouble with the stocks cracking by the receiver from the magnum rounds.

"All those years ago". I'm still wearing boots older than this thread. It's funny how your perspective changes as you get older. 12 years ago seems like yesterday to me.

Love a CZ today!

I have a Safari 458 Lott,9.3x64 550 FS,300WM 550 Medium Safari,30-06 American 550,22 hornet 527 FS,223 American 527,22 mag452 FS,22 452 lux,Brno 611 22mag,20 ga ringneck,ALL CZ and ALL SHOOTERS........the only manufacturer I have more of are Beretta/sako products and Vintage marlins....you can never go wrong with a CZ.......their price can only go up....did I mention my CZ compact 75 40 S&W!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sako quality at a Remington Price!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

I have a CZ 527 Kevlar Varmint with the HS Precision stock and heavy barrel in .223 that shoots lights out. It averages under 0.5 inches with 12 different hand loads in weights of 45, 50, 52, 55 and 60 grains. It was so impressed that I bought its bigger brother in .30-06 for hunting.

I also bought the new CZ 550 in .30-06 with the Kevlar HS Precision optional stock.
If you are not biased toward wood stocks, I would recommend the HS Precision Kevlar stocks that CZ provides as an option. It provides a very stable stock and produces a free floated barrel to the front lug.

It is pretty new and I am still working to find it's sweet spot although it does shoot several factory ammos under 1 MOA. The others have two just over 0.84 inches and one just under 1 MOA. I have found a couple of hand loads that shoot several hand loads under 0.7 inches and one that shoots just under 0.6 inches.

With its hunting oriented thin barrel, the CZ 550 barrel heats up very quickly and I have to admit that I haven't been patient enough to let it thoroughly cool when I was shooting groups to test ammo, so I probably didn't get the results the CZ 550 was really capable of.
